this new trailer just further enforces what i’ve been saying all along about natasha
1. she’s not just a minor character. she is, undoubtedly, one of the smartest, wisest characters, especially out of the og avengers. she’s driven by her want to help people, to clean the blood of her hands. to be herself, in her own right. she sees things from a far more objective standpoint than tony or bruce or thor. she isn’t driven by personal loss (see tony) or by a sense of duty/loss (steve) or by revenge (thor, clint) or by scientific means (bruce.) she just wants to help. she just wants to help people, in any way she can.Â
she’s seen bloodlust and revenge and love and she understands the value of human emotions AND the value of being objective. she can look at the full picture, without a specific loss tying her down. that’s why she has a narrative tone in both the trailers. that’s why.
because she rules with her heart AND her mind. she’s an anchor for those who needs her, but she’s also a one woman ship. she’ll fight because it’s the right thing to do, because she wants to, because she chooses to, not because she feels like she has to.Â
like. it’s honestly special. who else narrates? tony. steve. two of the largest characters, and, may i mention, two characters that she is intimately connected with. she has the most appearances in movies other than the two of them, with 6 movies to her name. (tied with thor). she’s wise. we see that in everything she does. she goes to comfort steve, even when they’re on “opposing sides.” she goes on the run with him because she believes in him, because she trusts him. her most famous quotes reflect just that. “we have what we have when we have it.” “nothing lasts forever.”
2. she’s so moral. she’s the one that suggest dying with the civilians in AoU. she’s the one that follows her heart, even if she gets called “calculating.” she’s the one that believes, that walks into a war, because it’s the right thing to do. she’s not obligated, like steve.
she chooses to. she knows exactly what the wrong thing to do is, and she knows that she could choose that, but instead, she chooses not to.Â
“we owe this. to everyone who’s not in this room. to try.”Â
you can hear the determination in her voice. she has to help. she wants to. she’s just as moral as steve. and that’s incredible. because she wasn’t raised with a loving mother, and a semi-normal childhood. she was raised to do one thing, and she did. she was raised to kill.
killers don’t know mercy, they don’t know morality.
but she does. she believes. she wants to help. she’s fighting, because she can, because it’s the right thing to do, because she owes it.Â
she owes it to everyone, to try. she’s just as moral and wiser, than most characters. her characterization in the past movies may have been shitty, but now we can see who she is, what she wants, and it’s fucking beautiful.
