A little bit of history of this mix - this is the first of 2 commercially released mix CD’s I compiled for the 90’s club kid retail store mecca Antique Boutique in NYC. Big deal right? A DJ in a retail store… but this was 1996 and *no one* was doing that shit at the time. And it wasn’t just me in the corner playing some bullshit trip hop listening music - I had a full on DJ booth, a sick soundsystem (neighbors 10 stories up would routinely threaten to sue us for rattling their apt), and free reign to play whatever the fuck I wanted. For 2 years, from Friday to Sunday (usually going on no sleep from my weekend gigs!), I dropped everything from Underground Resistance to The Smiths, but primarily my sets were centered around deep techno, deep house and tech house, as this first ‘Soundtracks’ CD demonstrates. And for those who never got to witness first hand the vibe of Antique Boutique at that time… it was literally a club moonlighting as a clothing store and it was an amazing experience. Kinda hard to put in words, but it was a motley crue of ravers, club kids, bewildered tourists, aspiring artists, clothing designers, actors, rock stars and freaks and it was awesome.
