Mono & adhd
Having mono and unmedicated adhd is literally hell. You're so understimulated your brain is going off like a pinball machine meanwhile you're too exhausted to do anything to give it some goddammed dopamine. So you feel like screaming but you just sit there stoned faced. Watch your fave tv show? Nah, can understand what anyone is saying. Eat food? Nah. Sugary fatty food? Maybe... Nah it's too tiring to chew. just going to pass out completely for a few hours. You wake up, and hope to accomplish something. A shower maybe. But instead you're ready for another nap. Stuck in hell because with adhd you have no concept of the future. So you feel like you're going to be sick forever. But you don't even get any good drugs to pass the time. Just Tylenol and ice water. You finally get some deep sleep and you wake up soaked in sweat. Your hair is soaked. You can wring out your shirt. And all your sensory bullshit goes off and you just sit there and cry like a child. You're the one who asks to sleep alone but now you feel lonely. But what's the point in waking your husband up at 3am when you don't even have words to describe how sad you are. So you cry. Eventually you pull yourself together, change your shirt, crawl back into your damp bed and try to sleep. And you do, because you're exhausted. But you know you'll wake up in the morning just as tired. And it's a nightmare.
Why I've been MIA
hey followers. So funny story. I've been sick for weeks with a horrible fever and shit. Turns out I have mono and had to spend 5 days in the hospital because the mono was affecting my liver so badly. I'm home now recovering but man, mono is shit. If any of you have had mono and have recovery tips please let me know.

sorry if it’s too much trouble to ask but what does hyperfixatikn feel like?? like sometimes i feel like i identify w some of the symptoms of adhd and??
it’s literally not being able to dedicate any time or effort or emotion to anything outside of a very specific thing to the point where it overtakes your life and consumes every thought, both waking and dreaming. it’s the inability to think about anything without somehow connecting it to the thing you’re currently obsessing over. it’s the inexplicable urge to rebuild your entire personality and life around this one thing. it’s being overtaken with such an overblown and debilitating emotional reaction every time something new happens relating to your interest that you drop everything else and have to write off entire days to lose your shit about it. it’s thinking and talking and writing and crying about it until all the joy has been drained from it, completely bled dry of new content and ideas, and still not being able to think about anything else. it’s complete separation from reality and relatability to other people because you’re so wrapped up in whatever tangent your brain is going off on today. it’s total apathy at anything else that crosses your field of vision, no matter how important it may be, to the point where your real life concerns are suffering because of it. it’s all consuming and inescapable. and it doesn’t end. it’s the same thing every time with anything your brain decides it can squeeze happiness or entertainment out of. one hyperfixation ends only to be replaced by another in a matter of days and the cycle repeats itself. and on the rare occasion you find yourself without something to obsess over, the hollow terror that comes from that understimulation easily outweighs any stress or frustration that your last hyperfixation caused you. it’s becoming depressed because you don’t have anything to keep your brain running into overdrive every five minutes. it’s knowing you’d rather feel fulfilled by something that’s ruining your life than learn to tolerate this emptiness. it’s hating the fact that you can’t just enjoy things casually like everyone else whilst simultaneously relying on the feeling of letting something take over your life. it’s the only way you know how to find purpose. it’s the only way you can find enjoyment in things. it’s the only way you know how to feel happy.
CBC made a good documentary on adult ADHD and part of it really caught me off guard because i swear they repeated verbatim my life story for the past 3 years

My ADHD manifested in piles of homework left undone until the last possible minute, while I stared at them, thinking; “I want to get these done. I understand the theory. It would take 10 minutes. I want to start, why can’t I start?”
My ADHD manifested in fantastic reading comprehension - nigh impenetrable focus on interesting topics the first time I’m reading about them.
My ADHD manifested in a complete inability to focus on reviews or re-reads, mind skittering sideways and away whenever anything was boring or repetitive. I sat down to study, my books open, my eyes on the text, and my brain clawing its way out the back of my head to focus on something else - anything else. Focus, focus! [No.]
My ADHD manifested in Articulating wings half-finished but still beautiful, in beautiful lineart and half-hearted coloring. In stories written passionately for days until I forgot it existed and never returned. In projects started and forgotten and started and forgotten a thousand times until my bins of project supplies piled up and my bank account shriveled down. No, it will be different this time - I LOVE this new thing. This new thing is my world, my destiny, my Everything. I CREATE and CREATE and CREATE and never FINISH.
My ADHD manifested in confusion and surprise as time slithered away, hours passing like minutes and minutes seeming endless by contrast. An inability to gauge how much time had passed, was left, a task would take. An inability to hold dates in my head, because time didn’t feel consistent or even real.
My ADHD manifested in watching someone talk and not understanding a word they said - literally hearing sounds and translating out only nonsense. In thoughts so loud I couldn’t speak coherently. In a conversation across the room shattering an idea I was trying to hold. It’s hard to think when you’re already thinking about everything around you.

According to something I read recently, that can be a common ADHD trait. I always loved fairytales and fables as a kid (still do actually). I guess that’s another ADHD thing!

My husband and I had an argument this morning. We eventually dealt with it. then tonight he said I was obviously still mad at him because I was withdrawn and in my head.
And I'm like "literally all Ibe been thinking about for the last 4 hours is driving my car into a lake and I'm quiet because I'm having an internal monologue about why that's silly. But, yeah. it's all about you"

I don’t really know how to describe this feeling other than stressful, so I decided to draw it

I will never forget the day when I was drawing, in the front row, with full out colored pencils in one of my 7000 level graduate school courses. And my professor walked by, glanced down, said, “Nice artwork!” and kept lecturing. She knew. She knew it was how I focused on the course material. It was validating and made me feel comfortable, confident, and alert the entire semester.
Doodling is a simple activity that takes very little brain power for most people to do. One reason it happens is because they’re understimulated and the brain needs some sort of activity to focus on. Without something physical to do the brain will turn to it’s other tactic, daydreaming. An activity that regularly distracts their full attention.
I started knitting in university to get through 3 hour lectures. I'd just knit endless lengths of fabric.
