My Top Tracks of 2017
I culled my big ole Spotify list I’ve been adding to since January 1 into an unordered Top 100… then further refined that down to a Top 25 (with no more than one song per artist). The top 25 starts at the number one, and works it’s way back.
In addition to this, my Top 5 albums are:
1. Thundercat - Drunk 2. Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory 3. St. Vincent - MASSEDUCTION 4. Jonwayne - Rap Album Two 5. The Flaming Lips - Oczy Melody
And, while surely no one cares except for me, I couldn’t help but look at some of the data in my Top 100. Some data I gathered with this tool, other bits I did manually. For what it is worth:
Average track length is 3:46 (which extended by 9 seconds in my top 25)
Average BPM is 118.71 (4 beats slower in the top 25)
There were 85 different artists in my top 100
And apparently, I got an overall score of 59% danceability
The genre stuff is pretty loose, I self-classified each of the tracks.
I hate “Indie” as a genre label, but couldn’t find anything more representative without creating too many sub-categories.
“Jazz” included stuff like King Krule and Thundercat.
“Experimental” is stuff that didn’t really fit into a genre
“Other” is stuff that was too genre-bending to lock it into one.
Gender Split was based on the front person of the group.
Country of Origin, unsurprisingly I suppose, was 50% US, 25% UK, 8% Canada and then bits and pieces from other countries. Only 2 Aussie artists. I probably should have paid more attention to local music.
