Bramble: The Mountain King
gamelog #002 - 19/06/2026
Downloaded this on my ps5 on a whim cuz I saw silly gnomes and pretty forests but holy fuck, what the hell. Look, I knew this was going to be messed up the moment I read the content warning at the start but I did not fucking expect all this bro. The story is heavily inspired by nordic folklore and the magical fairytale atmosphere is very strong at the beginning, but the game transitions to a tragic and disturbing nightmare real soon. The shit this poor boy has gone through man... The enemy designs are so cool though. My favorite is probably Näcken: he's incredibly creepy yet simultaneously a hear-me-out. Other scary beauties are Skogsrå and Kärrhäxan (apparently the latter's not based on any folklore, but an original character!) The scariest boss overall was probably Pesta though, everything about that fight made me so uncomfortable. The gameplay was quite diverse and pretty doable (Arkham Asylum's Scarecrow sequence definitely trained me well for this one). I did die A LOT though and my stupid ass had to search a guide once or twice lol. I've seen people compare the game to Little Nightmares; never played that game myself but there were moments that made me think of Resident Evil, kinda. The atmosphere, visuals and music are so good, and the cinematography was insane; the angles and animations flow so well. Overall just... a real cool experience. It's not too long—I finished it in one evening—but I definitely recommend!
