Good morning
Wow, those last two photos should be dated as 2023/10/08 - I messed up the first one already, and am not going back and fixing them again. Random day in October. You get the point. who care

These were taken at Smith Rocks, right next to Terrebonne, Oregon.
One thing I'm learning is that sometimes it is difficult to convey a sense of scale. To do so, I am using four photos of this rock climber to show how truly gigantic these rock formations are.
In the top left photo, you can see the climber. This is our subject. Try to keep an eye on them.
In the top right photo, you can still see the climber. On the right hand side of this photo, keep an eye on the broken-looking rock formation on the right. This will be our foothold (pun intended).
In the bottom left photo, you probably can't see the climber in the thumbnail, but if you zoom in a little, you should be able to see them.
And finally, in the bottom right photo, this is the full scale of the rock they are climbing. Look for the broken rock formation again, it's sort-of on the right and towards the center. Our climber is just a handful of pixels when zoomed in, and clearly has a long way to go.

Right next to Terrebonne, Oregon is Smith Rock State Park. These rock formations are truly gigantic. I'm not a climber, but I have heard that Smith Rocks are some of the most challenging climbs in the world, and people from all over the planet flock there to do what humanity has always desired to do: climb huge rocks.
I spent the morning driving around with my mom to here and another place to take photos. We walked around for a while, listened to a guy talk our ears off about the area, and complained about how hazy it was from the various forest fires, making it hard to see the mountains in the distance. We left around 11:30am, and headed to the small ice cream shop nearby that had been in operation for 60 years. We both got a scoop of huckleberry ice cream. We both had a good time.

I wasn't kidding when I said I was obsessed with this place. I am so curious about it. Maybe one day I'll muster up the courage to go in.

Taken at one of the chain-up areas west of Mt. Hood on Highway 26.

I don't do much macro photography, but I do have a macro lens attachment. I liked how these flowers turned out. I think the yellow flowers are my favorite.
We live on such a beautiful planet, guys.

It's not lavender, it's flax!
This is the view from my grandma's back yard. Central Oregon is a desert, so summers are hot. The flowers open up during the afternoon to get their solar harvest. It's a perfect backdrop to sit out on the deck while reading a book in the evening as the valley cools off and the wind blows away the mosquitoes. Once the mosquitoes start biting again, you know it's about time to come back in.
I have been taking photos, I promise. I'm currently at grandma's house and I want to put all of my photos on my desktop PC. I have definitely gotten some good ones this past week and I'm looking forward to sharing them. I don't want to flood this blog with photos of the desert so I will probably stagger some of the posts.
Thanks for the support, everyone. It's fun diving back into this hobby and seeing people enjoying the photos really does put a smile on my face. Cheers.

Europeans FEAR the small community Fourth of July Parade.
This was a great parade. The route is maybe a mile, on a long day. I'm pretty sure this is the most people that have been on the street since, well, the last parade a year ago.
The highlight for me was the truck that, instead of tossing out candy, had a keg, with minors handing out open containers of beer to the adults among the crowd. Good, old-fashioned, American fun.
Also, I'm pretty sure I fixed my avatar so that it won't have the head just slightly cut off. If anyone cares, the avatar of this character is Ghost, the player character from the games Sludge Life and Sludge Life 2. Both excellent, crude, weird games.
