Just a Small Town Girl

He couldn’t miss the way she seemed to relax into his arms and suddenly straightened again. The movement was subtle, and could have been mistake simply for her trying to get into a more comfortable position. He didn’t hold it against her, after all, he had attempted to kill her, had stalked and threatened her. It would be unreasonable to believe she could forgive and forget all in the name of a friendly gesture.

“I didn’t say you would be turned on by that, I’m only saying you don’t have to be a killer to have certain kinks.”

       Out of the hated pull of curiosity, Lisa couldn’t help but wonder what his thoughts about what she was like when it came to the more intimate moments when it came to bedroom play. Hell, he could see her as something far more playful than the vanilla bean she considered herself.

         With a blanket thrown over her shoulders, Carolyn felt as if her world was falling around her, like she was falling through a hole to some  HELLISH   Wonderland. Blood still drenched her clothing that had been discarded in the corner of her hospital room.

It had taken hours just to get the bleeding to  STOP   and to repair the damage that had been done within her. Nicked veins had been a concern, but it seemed someone had been looking out for her during the  VIOLENT   attack against her.

        It was seeing strangers --  MEN  -- that she struggled in her hospital bed in a need to put distance between anyone that could cause her harm. With no true memory recall of what he looked like, her  FEAR  was that he’d come back once word escaped that his victim had survived and was to be questioned.

With the feel of the nurses holding her down then the  SOFTNESS   of the man’s assuring words, Carolyn halted her attempt to escape her hospital bed. Blinking back  her fearful tears, she nodded to her nurse, silently revealing that she was no longer a risk.

❝ Have you found him? ❞

"Its okay, I'm here."

"I'm not going to leave you."

"Everything is okay."

"I'm going to protect you."

"I believe in you."

"Hear my heartbeat? Just focus on that."

"You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now."

"You're not going to lose me."

"I love you."

"I'll stay right here, okay?"

"Just breathe."

"I'm okay, you're okay, we're okay."

"You're everything to me."

"I don't care what they think, to me, you are perfect."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

| Barba |:

Her tears and pleas or mercy anger him, but this debasement pleases him. He doesn’t let it show on his face, however; he is in a mood to see how far he can push her. how much punishment can he make her ask for before she breaks? He has shattered in so many for so long he should be bored of her, but he does enjoy picking up the piece of her like this and seeing if he can shatter her more. 

He slaps her across the face, the sting of it on his hand a pleasure. A small, cruel smile appears on his face as he watches her. “You deserved that, Carolyn. You know you did.” 

         Carolyn reacts to his clap upon her with a hand to the sting of her reddened flesh as a pained yelp escapes her. Tears pool at the corners of glassy and nearly blood shot eyes, but the brunette does not allow them to fall just yet. Slowly, she pulls her attention back to her keeper -- the sheer amount of how   SORRY   she is clear upon reddened features. Surely the edge of her cheek would bruise, leaving her marked and a reminder to how she’d messed up and how he had reacted in such a  VIOLENT   manner.

The broken woman that would have once fought back with a  FIRE  only shivers in front of him, revealing to him just how far he’d pulled her down from the  STRONG AND CAPABLE  woman she’d been before crossing his path.

| Barba |:

She clung to him as though she would die without him. he smiled down at her, brushing her hair back from her face. He was all indulgence now, all warmth.

“I rather like the lilac one with the lace sleeves,” he said. they both knew it was as good as an order: she would wear the dress as though it were her own idea. She had no thoughts independent of him; she had no wish, no desire, that did not begin and end with him. The knowledge of his power warmed him, and he stroked a strand of hair back from her face. “and you know i like it best when you have curls in your hair. not too much makeup either; you’re no whore tonight.” 

| John |:

She pressed in close to him and he obliged her, lazily wrapping an arm around her back, hand drifting in circles over the soft fabric of her nightgown. He’d been nervous that she wouldn’t fit in – that she wouldn’t be what he had envisioned her to be as he waited for her to arrive by rail. For the most part, his nerves were in the right place. Carolyn was not what he had expected at all. 

She had exceeded his expectations by a country mile. Listening to her speak to him now proved it. He had anticipated a woman meek and unobtrusive, but judging by the underlying energy in her voice, John had a very distinct feeling that Carolyn would not only be his motivation, but she would also be his ally. The state of Wyoming was still so young, so wild, and there was still quite a bit of work to do if he intended to whip it into the kind of shape that the fledgeling country would be proud of.  

“As am I, my dear,” he replied, smiling under his moustache. “You’re a smart woman, I can tell. The West isn’t like the rest of the country, and I intend to make this state a shining example of civility in an expanse of savagery. It’s only fair that I have a woman like you by my side to help do that.”

She leaned her head back against his shoulder and he turned to press a kiss to her forehead with a chuckle. Carolyn was right – there had been little unrest out in his city since he’d taken up residence there and enacted laws to keep the streets safe. It had become one of the things he was most proud of in Cheyenne. “That’s some fine governing, if I do say so.”

A story? He hummed a low rumble in his chest at her question. John’s stories weren’t the type of tales he told to anyone anymore. He’d seen more death than he should have in the war and directly after, when he’d been relocated to Atlanta during the early days of Reconstruction. Still, he searched, wracking his brain to try and drudge up something that wasn’t filled with violence or greasy politics.

“I don’t believe I have many stories that warrant a smile, I’m afraid,” John started, his gaze drifting across the room. “The war took so much from all of us. I was working as a newspaperman back then, and I can say… even that wasn’t a safe job. Still, it opened the door to the political sphere for me. Not many men can say they had a discussion with President Lincoln over an article they penned.”

       Such a conversation between husband and wife brought a  PERKY   smile to emit over her features. The train ride to meet a man she’d never met had been harrowing. Traveling across the expanding nation had been even more taxing on her nerves, but all had come to a  STANDSTILL   when she came to be greeted by the man that was to be her husband.

And what a  FINE HUSBAND   he was.

❝ I’d have to say the  BEST  governing this side of the mountains, ❞ the brunette teased lightly as she turned to face her husband fully, hands absently playing with the lapel of his coat, ❝ I heard stories, well,  READ  them actually, from the local paper back home in Baltimore about how  ROWDY  the West is. You’re  TAMING  the beast, Governor. ❞

It never left her thoughts that her husband had been on the side of the Union while her family had  MOSTLY   tried to survive the war as both sides had encroached upon her home.

His snort sent a puff of warm air to tickle over the back of her head, and a ghost of a grin touched at his mouth.

“Cliches are cliches for a reason, Care,” Marco said. He tentatively shifted his arms to wrap one gently around her midsection. Careful so she couldn’t perceive the touch as lecherous.

“But there are plenty of non-killers who also enjoy knife play. I’m sure even YOU have your fair share of kinks.”

          For the expanse of a single moment, Carolyn felt herself leaning into the  COMFORTING EMBRACE   of a serial killer. While she didn’t jerk from his hold, she was quick to straighten herself in his embrace, to find her nerve once more no matter how much she missed physical touch.

She cleared her throat as she stared forward while cheeks burned in embarrassment at the very thought of answering his comment.

This is the main verse in which Carolyn is/has recovered and is continuing on in her life, now as a florist. There are times when hints of what happened to her are seen or heard, but for the most part she keeps silent. Hints include the slight touch of a lisp or the sight of her tongue which happens to be less pink than normal.
