Its often silent at night, putting music in my ears helps pass the time while i go over documents.
Do you think we could get closer to the truth?
That's my hope. It's good to know other people seek the truth too. I'm currently compiling evidence, maybe that will help the picture of this disease become clearer.
How much do you know about the inkblot so far?
I've found some old notes, but I'm having to decipher between rumors and facts.. all I'm steadily sure of for now is its appearance, consistency, how contagious it is, and that victims often develop multiple eyes across their body, which go blind if they recover. Theres a few other things I'm guessing about though..
(Asks are open!)

Found an old picture today during archival research. It's a little blurry, but appears to be of a victim of the inkblot, possibly multiple. The photo was labeled I.B. C Test 51.3, interesting... hope to figure out more about what that means
The inkblot is a mysterious disease, being shrouded in classified papers and generally fading from the public consciousness. Perfect for curious minds (seen above, a picture of a curious mind dedicated to the research and archival of any available knowledge on the inkblot disease, looking for other curious minds to ask questions with and of them) @cuddledot
I have a headcanon/idea of diseases within the Splatoon universe and the best way to start of is the Inkblot Disease! Basically, this disease infects Inklings and Octolings (Basically most Cephalopods), turning them into a black inky mess as their body slowly melts into a monster.
Want more info about it? Read below!

Ok lmao donāt me but I have a minor question about the inkblot disease, after the infected reach the final stage is it possible that they (or at least some) might retain some form of memory from before like a song, for example calamari inkantation, and when played will become passive for a few moments recollecting vague spaces of words they feel theyāve heard but donāt know before going back into a frenzy??
OH YES, I LOVE THE IDEA YOUāRE THINKING!!The infectedĀ may have some sort of nostalgia from the music, slowly regaining their memories but not fully. Eventually, itāll become passive and controlled. However, the effectĀ of calamari inktation may cause the infected inkling/octolingĀ to mentally break down from the sight of seeing themselves turned into a monster; the point they wished to forget. Itās rarely likely to regain themselves back together, I mean imagine finally regain your usual self along with some recalled memories, but then you see yourself into somethingā¦horrible. That sounds pretty messed up, right? As for a single infected cephalopod, itāll be quite traumatic for the poor thing. Confused and scared.Yet for the Cephamalagam, itās much, MUCH worse.
Hearing the thoughts and memories of thousands of strangers amalgamated, not to mention so many voices overwhelming you. You then realized not only deluged to many other cephalopods, but seeing yourself turned into an abomination. Soon enough everyone, all combined together, came into realization one by one,Ā go into a mass hysteria.TĶĢ¦Ģ¬Ģ²Ģ¦Ķ hĶĶĶ̳̲ĶeĢ„Ķ̼̦̄ Ķ”scĢr̵̪̩ĢĢĢeĶ Ķ̼Ģ̩̣Ģ̦a̬ĶĢĶĶĢ£mĶĶ̬̳ĶĶị̓ĢĶĢ«Ģn̪̫̦ĶgĢ wĢ¢ĢoĶĶĢnĢØĢ£'Ģ”ĶĶĶĢ£ĢĢtĶ̳̯ĢĢ ĢĢ ĢøĢ£Ģ³ĢŖĢ̣̹sĶ”ĢĢ£to̧ĶĶp͔̫Ģ
SO YEAH, in short, calamari inktationĀ wonāt work too well youāre dealing with many squids and octosĀ mixed together in large populous numbers.
I made more Inkblot stuff and uhhhhh whoopsie daisy

How do the Cephalmagams interact with non-Octoling Octarians or Salmonids? And how do they interact with non-ink creatures, like the Jellyfish, the Judds and the shopkeepers?
*Cracks knuckles* Buckle up your seatbelts and get your snacks, kiddos. Because itās time for some learning! Itās quite long so let us keep reading below!Ā

Im curious, sanitized octolings can be inmune to the inkblot? (also love your art)
Thank you so much!! :3c
As for sanitized octolings, they do have a bit resistance, as it the stages toĀ be fully consumed by this awful malady will very slow. So in short, they can withstand the Inkblot with longer periods of time but doesnāt have complete immunity.
How does a cephamalgam react to water? Does it dissolve in it? And does it still have organs (like hearts or a stomach? (btw i looove your hc)
aaa thank you!!
Interestingly, itās thought dissolving the Cephamalgam into the water could be the cure/permanent solution back then during the Great Turf War. However, since the consistency and sticky, gooey thickness of the monster is, It doesnāt make it dissolve. Just makes them float. Kinda like this:
And yes, the water gets contaminated, unfortunately.
As forĀ organs, itās quiteĀ unknown. Since this creature can form any shape, thereās without a doubt it has no organ system. This baffled many researchers on how theyāll hunt and consume smallerĀ prey despite lacking no organs. Basically, like a Trichoplax!
Well, thatās all for now! :0
Does the inkblot disease affect salmonids?
It ends up killing the poor Salmonids :( I did mention some info about it here!
However, I do have an idea the Salmonidās corpse becomes like a host for the Inkblot; a perfect breeding ground for the pathogen. The corpses stomachĀ ends up bloating and eventually explodes, something like this!!
I attempt to make a vintage poster like you kind a see around the 40s. (Ngl, it was fun drawing this!).

HOLY FUCK IT'S THE INKBLOT QUEEN! The original test subject, eh? I wonder if they know Cuttlefish... It wouldn't surprise me. At first it seemed like the disease was driven by primal needs (Feed and reproduce), but now it looks like a grudge.
You guessed it right! The original test subject or we also like to call him Patient ZeroĀ (or Subject Zero). After theĀ tragic accident, he basicallyĀ became the disease himself, the ultimate hierarchyĀ of the hivemind,
Hereās an art dump of this bastard. trying to get use to the design and all. We all know heās known as Subject Zero, though his real name remains unknown. After the tragic incident, he became the embodiment of the disease itself, a known ringleader of the hivemind. He takes the form of some sort of inkling and octoling from the result of the experiment. He can even turn himself even more of a horrific monster as he please.
Oh, and pronouns are he/they btw!!
