âOh, rightâ he nodded, âI remember.â Jasper would make note of it when he got back home to go over to see it. âBirds donât eat with their fingers. They do not have themâ he said, a little confused at Jackâs question.Â
~
Jack laughed. âI know that, I just meant that youâre eating in tiny baby bird bites,â he said, reaching over to pinch Jasperâs cheek gently. âHere. Eat like you mean it. You probably eat as much as you sleep and thatâs why youâre so damn skinny.â He picked up the otherâs plate and lifted a good-sized piece of fish to hold it out toward Jasperâs mouth.
amelia-fraserâ:
âI know it was a joke, do you not understand sarcasm?â She crossed her arms and stepped up to him as if to challenge him almost. âYou didnât answer the question. Why did you do it? Unless youâre sticking to heroism as your answer. You tell me the truth I might thank you.â
~
Ryan decided to let that one slide. âI did it because I wanted to. Why do I gotta have a reason?â he asked, shrugging uncomfortably but not backing down from her challenging stance. âDidnât realize thanking someone came with conditions.â He shook his head and took a step back finally. âFine, donât thank me. You know, you make it really difficult to be nice to you. Is that one of your coping mechanisms? Push people away with your attitude so you end up with no friends and then nobody can hurt you?â

âWell, we both know that charcoal is incredible for a smoky eyeâ Finn grinned, taking a moment to listen to the music before finding the beat to dance to. âWere you able to do the trade?â they asked, realizing she hadnât said whether or not it had been a success. âYou should give me a makeover. Make me one of your beautiful muses, Martha.âÂ
~
âIt is incredible for a smokey eye, but weâre so limited as to colors and palettes and glitter. Oh, Finn, I miss glitter,â Martha said with a dramatic sigh, even as she started to dance with them. âI could give you a makeover if you wish. Come to my hut tomorrow and Iâll make you the prettiest resident on this island.â
amelia-fraserâ:
âThanks.â She said as she got to her feet before blushing as Cat pointed out she still had sand on her. Brushing herself down Mia gave a heavy sigh. âAnd here I was hoping for an uneventful evening but I embarrass myself instead.â
~
âHey, it couldâve been worse. You couldâve broken your heel and fallen over on the red carpet of the Golden Globes in front of hundreds of people and photographers,â Cat said with a faint grin. âHere, who saw you? Me? The fish? That kid over there building a sandcastle? Little harm done. Iâm Cat, by the way.âÂ
amelia-fraserâ:
âRight. Because the sand is so sharp and dangerous that I would have died on impact.â She replied, her tone dripping with sarcasm. âIâm pretty sure you destroyed that kids sand castle rushing to my rescue. Which begs the question of why you even bothered. I canât imagine iâm anywhere on your list of priorities.â
~
âMm, still not hearing a thank you,â Ryan said still smirking at her and crossing his arms over his chest. âIt was a joke, by the way, about you dying, but I still consider it an act of heroism so, you know . . .â He gestured toward her. âA thanks is in order. Maybe a gift too. I couldâve sprained my ankle or something leaping over that sand castle.â
implodingmirageâ:
âDid you give it to the temple yet?â he asked looking over, his expression making it obvious that he wanted to see it. Jasper picked up a piece of food, pinching it between his fingers to eat. âWant some?â he asked, getting another pinch and holding it out to him.Â
~
âNot yet. My boss has to do the engravings first, remember? Come by tomorrow and see it,â Jack said with a small smile, before reaching to take the pinch of food from him. âYou eat like a bird, you know that?â he said with an affectionate grin before placing the bite in his mouth.
daivi-bakshiâ:
âIâm an apothecary, Jack. What people from the old world call a pharmacist. Iâm able to diagnose and treat small ailments but Iâm not a doctor. You can call me Daivi.â When he asked if she had something to calm a person she frowned a little. âAre you feeling anxious? Could you tell me a little more about when these moments are happening? Is it the party thatâs causing it?â
~
âOh, uh, itâs not for me,â Jack admitted, rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepish smile. âItâs for my friend. Heâs an orphan, and Iâve always kinda looked out for him, you know? Crowds and loud noises and stuff make him anxious, or something, he doesnât like them, so I thought you might have something that could help him so he could join in the fun of the party. I donât want him to feel left out.â

âââââ  &   âi think iâm weird because i know other people perceive me as weird. or strange, not like other people. whatever way you want to put it. iâm not really someone people want to spend time around.â xylie replies, arms crossed as she averts her gaze instead to the islanders enjoying the party. of course, a lot of the attitude she received had to do with how she acted, how she refused to get close to anyone lest they leave like her mother did. âlike i said, itâs fine. my ego isnât bruised or anything.â
âHave you tried spending time with other people?â Melissa asked curiously, watching Xylie closely. âIn any case, Iâd like to see you participate more. Weâre a community, and itâs only with the help and strength of the community that we will survive. People who strike out on their own donât make it very far. Trust me. I know.â

When Mia fell backwards she wasnât expecting anyone to try to catch her let alone fail. As she landed on someone she almost immediatley rolled off, the two of them now lying in the sand. âIâm so sorry, are you alright?â She asked at the exact same time the other did before laughing when she realised what they had done. âIâm okay. Thank you for trying to catch me. There was a dip in the sand and I lost my footing.â
âHere,â Cat said, moving to stand and helping Mia to her feet as well. âSand can be difficult to walk on. The beach is the worst place to have a runway, let me tell you.â She grinned and brushed herself off, reaching to fix her hair as best she could. âYouâve got some . . . on your backside.â She gestured toward Miaâs posterior.

One moment she was falling the next she was being yanked to someoneâs arms. She had been moments from thanking whoever it was when she heard his voice and looked up. âOh itâs you.â Mia pulled herself out of his hold. âI hit a dip in the sand. Excuse me for not being use to beaches.â She grumbled mood a little more sour now. âI hope you donât intend to ear yourself another bruise.â
âIs that a challenge?â Ryan asked with a smirk, though he let her pull away from him. âMan, for someone who was so insistent on me apologizing the other day, you sure donât have good manners yourself. Arenât you going to say thank you? I just saved you from certain death.â
implodingmirageâ:
âI have to finish things. If I donât finish them then people keep asking when Iâm going to be doneâ Jasper shrugged, responding to the sentiment that he worked too much. âDid you finish your chalice?âÂ
~
âYeah, you gotta finish things, but you donât have to work straight through the night. You gotta take time for yourself too,â Jack said, shaking his head. âAnyway, yeah, I finished the chalice. I slept eight whole hours last night too.â He nudged Jasper playfully with a small grin.
implodingmirageâ:
âof course. this wouldnât work without the group effortâ it was the same with the way their village worked in general. it took the group for things to run efficiently. âOh yes, she mentioned something about wanting to win a prize for someone. I might participate later, what about yourself?âÂ
~
âIâm fine just watching from the sidelines,â Melissa admitted with a small smile. âDoes your daughter have a crush on someone? How old is she again?â

sunheesunnyâ:
âââââ  &  âwell, i appreciate it anyway.â sunhee responds definitively, with a smile and a nod of her head. she glances at the other islanders, happy with the activities of the fair. she wonders briefly how anyone could be bored during something like this â then she considers how she typically likes to spend her time, curled up with a nice book and a hot tea. she frowns, thinking, then grins at ryan. âwell⌠we could make one.â
~
â . . . Make one? What do you mean?â Ryan asked, his interest piqued despite himself. He really shouldâve just gone on his way, but something made him linger, and he turned toward her, looking at her curiously.
implodingmirageâ:
They smiled as she looped her arm through theirs, and started over to where the music was playing and people were dancing. âIt really is hard to imagine isnât it?â they chuckled. âHave you talked to any of the new people?â they asked curiously.Â
~
âI spoke to one of them tonight. A beautiful woman whose makeup was impeccable. I wanted to see if she could trade some of her real makeup because Iâve been using berries and charcoal my whole life,â Martha said with a soft laugh.
