I like to think of that early part of a relationship as being like a months free trial. Where you see and give the very best of yourself. No request is too much. You’re attentive, polite, interested. Yet we all know that you need to cancel that free trial before the end of the period. If not you suddenly find that you’ve entered into a contract that you had no intention of signing up for. There are terms and conditions, fees and reporting a problem becomes more trouble than it’s worth. Call me cynical but there always comes a point where we become too comfortable and allow all those conditions that we come with to complicate things. Try and live every day like you’re still working on getting your parter to ‘sign up’.
What goes on in that fluffy brain of yours...
My head feels like that messy room in your house. Anything that’s lying around that could give someone the impression that everything isn’t in order, throw it in the room. Out of sight. Every now and again you might gather up the strength to have a look inside. But the scene is overwhelming. The contents are getting closer and closer to spilling out. So the door closes again and I pretend that it doesn’t exist. The problem in facing it is always in where to begin. So I’ve made a pledge to just pick one thing. Stay in the room and confront the squalor. Just make one small part of it presentable again.
