“V-Vision? Th-That’s impossible,” the girl gulped as she tried to wipe off some of the dirt and ash from her face, “V-Vision is…d…d…”

The young Stark didn’t speak for a few moment before she slowly lifted her head, not being able to hide her now puffy, red eyes. These recent events hit her with more force than one could never imagine.

“Th-the Mind Stone? Th-Thanos must be after you.”

Yes,” Milo agreed as gently as he could. “Vision is dead, but as the Mind stone, I am a part of who Vision was. Just… in my purer form now, only me, without JARVIS and Ultron and I coming together to form Vision. I’m sorry if that doesn’t make sense; I can explain it better once we’re off this planet.

Peter grimaced at the thought of his own angry outburst and placed his hands on the table nearby, leaning against it. A breath of frustrated air flew past his lips. He wished he could just force his usual grin and give her a snide remark for the sake of his reputation, but crap, Rocket had really gotten under his skin this time. “No offense, but I know you don’t care so why are you even bothering?” He asked, looking over at her with a raised eyebrow. God knew he was probably being childish right now. Some would say it was just a simple walkman, but no, not to Peter. That music belonged to him. The last piece of his mother he had - or sort of; the songs were truly what kept her memory alive within him, but still. He didn’t like not having the walkman in his grasp.

Oh. He really was truly upset this time, wasn’t he? Olivia frowned, taking another step into the room as she amended cautiously, “Because maybe I do care, if you really are this upset over something. Do you need help with something? Can I help you?” Because, like it or not, that was her main purpose here on this ship, to watch over Peter Quill – and maybe that meant in the small things, as well as in the big issues, regardless of whichever this one qualified as.

“Right, you’re totally not bitter and clearly not full of pessimistic thoughts that, might I add, are highly untrue,” Peter said, having to bite back a snicker because it was so obvious that she was. He crossed his arms over his chest and kept the grin in place, letting it simmer against his smooth lips. “For the record, weird is not the worst thing I’ve been called so I’m not even bothered by that.”

Olivia ignored his comment about her bitterness; they both knew that train of thought wasn’t worth jumping on. “I’m not pessimistic, or at all untrue; I’m realistic. Look at your lifespan versus mine. Why would I get attached to you when clearly your life is going to end before mine?” She shook her head, let his flippancy roll off her shoulders. “Of course you’re not. No point in being bothered by the truth, right?”

The unfortunate thing about the Stone family’s human forms was that they were far more capable of projecting the emotions they felt than the Stones in their stone form ever even dreamed of being. 

Milo sometimes struggled with this fact more than any of his siblings. He, for example, had never meant to let Kelsey, of all people, see him with his guard down, tears flowing freely from his eyes once the world had begun to settle from Thanos’ attack. Yet here they were, her with her thin arms around him as he wept.

“ So you mean to tell me that you’re an infinity stone. ” There’s clear confusion and disbelief, not that it would really surprise her at this point. They’ve all been through too much to not realize that it was plausible.

“That’s fair,” Milo agreed on an exhale. “I just thought that you deserved to know who I am. Not a lot of people put two and two together very easily when it comes to my stone and human forms, but… given how we first met, if you will… I wanted you to hear who I was directly from me, particularly if we’re going to be interacting again.”
