     As the metal helmet clattered to the brick floor, Rotag had reared his claw back to strike again, knowing the human’s head was now vulnerable. But surprisingly, her cry made him hesitate mid strike, and the flames engulfing his head extinguished as his blind rage subsided for a second. Of all the humans he’d ever fought, none of them had ever been women.

     But suspicion overcame his surprise and he grabbed the human under her jaw, lifting her off the ground, his floating claws hovering dangerously close to her face and hair.
