Beth Cavener Stichter and Alessandro Gallo Collaborate on Ornate Sculpture

Beth Cavener Stichter’s (Hi-Fructose Vol. 26 cover artist) sculptures have an intensely-visceral quality. The ceramic animals she hand-builds demonstrate an human-like sense of understanding with their sensitive gazes and anthropomorphic eyes. But despite their thoughtful countenances, these characters are also perfectly at home in their animal skins. Cavener Stichter’s work does not shy away from the brutality of the animal world, from its untamed sexuality to its endless cycle of predator and prey.

She recently collaborated with Italian artist Alessandro Gallo (previously featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 24), who embellished her latest sculpture, Tangled Up in You, with painted tattoos reminiscent of traditional Japanese tattoo art. The 65-inch-tall sculpture (15 feet total, from the top knot of the rope to the floor) shows a lanky rabbit intertwined with a snake in mid-air. It is unclear whether the two figures are caught in a struggle to the death or a passionate embrace. Tangled Up in You is currently on view at the Milwaukee Museum of Art. I tried to draw the 7 Summits (really 8 if you add both Bass and Messner lists) as anime boys! I was watching some mountain documentaries and I got inspired! haha

t’s been a while, I was unwell for a while so I slowed down my drawing pace to recover (hence the inactivity)

Mount Everest

The tallest guy in the group. He is a big brother to all 14 Eight-thousanders (the 14 tallest mountains more than 8000 meters). He has lots of feminine nicknames which he doesn’t mind. Beware of his oxygen depriving bro hugs! Do not tell him Mauna Kea is secretly taller than him; he can’t tell because that dude’s swimming all the time.

Bonus: 

Mount Aconcagua

The second tallest member of the 7 Summits. He is a member of the Andes Range group. He is a serious dude, earning edgy nicknames like white sentinel, white ravine etc. He used to be a member of the Volcano club.

Mount Denali (Formerly Mt. McKinley)

The third tallest member. He is part of the Alaska Range group. He had a lot of names that’s why he gets confused whenever someone calls out to him. He’s like, “Are they calling me…or not?’ He loves collecting cents

Mount Kilimajaro

The highest mountain in Africa. He is a lonewolf, due to being not belonging to any Range groups. He is also a member of the hot-headed volcano club but even so, he’s also cool. He has a soft spot for animals.

Mount Elbrus

A chill dude with an air of elegance. He’s part of the Caucasus group and a member of the volcano club, but he is chilling out at the moment. He loves recreational activities. He has a rivalry with Mont Blanc because some think he is in Eurasia or something.

Mount Vinson

The most recent member of the group. The highest peak in Antarctica. He has a personality of a rich young master. If you wanna visit him, ya better have lotsa cash

Puncak Jaya (also called Carstensz Pyramid)

He is the part of the Messner List for the 7 Summits. He is part of the Sudirman Range Group. He’s is a bit hard to get along but if you succeed to befriend him, it will be a victory!
