When we first met Bobby, he was so shy. He’d walk into the room -- maybe we’d have some of our friends over -- and he wouldn’t say a word. Ethel would be telling some story and everybody would be laughing; she had a million and one stories to tell. Oh, gosh, I wish I could relate some of them; they were so funny. Then I noticed that she kept saying, “Bobby, you tell it,” and then Bobby would tell it. And he told it very, very well. She’d constantly be doing that all throughout her whole life, and I really feel that she made Bobby into the strong person he really was. As the old saying goes, “A woman really makes a man.” In her case, I really think she did. I think Red would agree with me on that, too... Yes, we came up – we were up there the weekend before Patrick’s – and this would be, if I could terminate it here, the weekend before Patrick was born. In fact it was very embarrassing to me, because the President and I had planned that we were going to go with John John and Caroline and Sally over to the shopping center or something, say at 2:30 or 3 o’clock, down in Hyannis. So I went upstairs at the time I was supposed to, and I knocked on the door and he said, “Come on in.” I walked in, and he and Jackie were in bed together. And I said, “God almighty, why did you tell me to come in? I don’t want to walk in here.” He said, “Oh, that’s all right.” I just felt, you know, this wasn’t the time or place that I come in, but there she was. She was lying there with him, and I guess they were chatting. She was about to give birth and I guess felt uncomfortable, but she just wanted to be with him, so they were lying there in each other’s arms and chatting. - Paul B. "Girls say Jack is still as shy as he's always been, despite the fact that he's one of the nation's most eligible and handsomest bachelors. "I don't know when I can find time for much social life," he said with a smile. "When I do have a free day, which is very rare, I try to get home to see the family. That doesn't leave much time for parties, or girls." However, Jack does take girls out occasionally, but no one in particular. "Guess I just haven't found the right one yet," he said. "I really prefer the homebody type of girl. One who is quiet and would make a fellow a nice, understanding wife and mother for his children. The color of her hair or her height wouldn't make much difference. Just as long as she's a homebody is all that counts. When I find her, even politics will take a back seat then."
