We got a new tape, and here's a review of our LP in No Friends

Like most Arte Para Todos shows, the bill’s lineup was diverse, but of a more sore-thumb variety than usual, with throwback punk-rockers Indonesian Junk plopped in the middle of an otherwise uniformly hip hop-oriented bill. Not that anyone seemed to mind of course, nor did the crowd flinch when technical difficulties, which the band handled with humor and class, interrupted their otherwise rocking set, drawn mostly from their new self-titled debut full-length.

"Milwaukee liver abusers Indonesian Junk deliver a jukebox-ready collection of head-boppers and floor-shakers that positively reek of stale cigarette smoke, dirty denim and reckless good times. Remarkably poppy in spots, but in a good, late-70s, skinny tie, local power-pop sensation sorta way. But mostly it’s rubber-legged drunk’n’roll, served straight-up and puke-stained."

Hey. Look. We're number one at something.

This group sure know how to craft a way funky deep diggin' groove and work it for all its worth: The tempos slither around with laid-back assurance while the meaty beats steamroll ahead with remorseless precision. The smooth vocals likewise project a disarmingly casual self-cofidence. The arrangements keep things tight and tuneful as well, with hard-crunching guitars, neatly percolating basslines, and mighty pounding drums merging together to create a sound that's quite punchy and sinewy, yet still melodic. Best of all, this band prove to be true masters of mean'n'lean economical rock'n'roll: The bulk of the songs are about three minutes long tops, there's precious little in the way of needless flashy filler, and basically every note counts. It's this latter streamlined element which consolidates this taut beaut's status as a surefire winner.

It's exactly what James was going for - trashy glam/punk with the soul of power pop...The most telling thing about Indonesian Junk's debut album is that it's been living in my car CD player for the last few weeks.
