Spirit work is one of those paths that most shy away from. Is it because of fear or lack of knowledge? Here’s some advice I got.

RESPECT

Respect them. Treat them as you would a living person.

Leave offerings often! Offerings can include fresh water, tobacco/cigarettes, flowers, coins, etc.

Leave a space for the spirit(s). Let them know that they’re welcome.

Talk to them. Whether that means through a pendulum, Ouija board (DO NOT RECCOMEND IF YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH ONE), or just randomly throughout your day - just talking out loud.

Boundaries

Be sure to set clear boundaries. Never do something that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Don’t let them push you around.

Be kind when setting your boundaries.

Rules of the Dead

The dead have many rules, that they strictly follow, and you need to learn what they are. Ignorance on your part is none of their concern.

If you make a contract with a Familiar, be specific. Make sure you can hold up your end of the deal.

One thing many people struggle with when learning to read tarot is keeping track of card meanings. While I don’t recommend learning tarot like flashcards, you certainly can. But don’t think there’s anything wrong will using a guide book or your notes while you read your cards until you start to commit things to memory and develop your intuitive abilities and a relationship with your deck. It’s all part of the process. 

Remember! While each card does have keywords associated with it, cards work together in a spread like words in a sentence. It is incredibly difficult to get the full picture if you read each card only with a handful of keywords. Also, keep in mind that this is a short list of keywords for each card. Each keyword has its negatives, and there are many more that apply to each card. 

Numerical Keywords:

Ace (1): Beginnings, potential

Twos: Balance, harmony, dichotomy

Threes: Communication, interaction (think “three’s a party”), outside influence

Fours: Rest, Contemplation

Fives: Conflict, Loss

Sixes: Growth, challenges overcome, understanding

Sevens: Fate, confidence, truth

Eights: Work, change, perseverance

Nines: Consequences and rewards

Tens: Endings (end of a cycle)

Pages: Messages, youth, information

Knights: Movement, adventure, experience

Queens: Power, potential, advice (think motherly advice)

Kings: Authority, power, structure

The Suits

Cups: Emotions (love, feelings, relationships), Connections, Water, Intuition

Wands: Spirituality, Personality, Illusions, Impulses, Fire, Energy

Sometimes life gets overwhelming and you don’t understand what’s going on. While big fancy tarot spreads can give you great answers to your questions, where do you start if you’re not sure what the question is or where the poblem lies? You want a quick, simple answer, that gives you a starting point, in this case, a point of view that helps you understand the situation, the problem and how to fix it.

The simple three cards structure

Card 1 is supposed to tell you, where your problem(s) come from. Where there certain events triggering the events leading to the chaos? Maybe your life wants you to confront a new task. What is happening around you may be a reflektion of what is going on inside you, unconciously, or vice versa (especially if you’re an empath).

Card 2 should explain your position in all of this. Even if your problem does not involve chaos, asking where you stand in regards to solving the problem might help interpreting the third card. You can also try and understand your role in a social conflict, how you have influenced the evolution of it so far or how far you have come in understanding and solving the problem.

Card 3 is telling you how to solve it. If you were really lazy or just really good at communicating with/ reading your cards, you might as well skip the first and second card. I think looking at past and present is really helpful in understanding what your card suggests for the future. If you already have a solution in mind you could also ask for the outcome.

Traditionally, you would place the cards next to eachother from left to right, but in the end you can spread them however you feel fits. How you spread the cards of course will have an effect on the interpretation of the interactions of the cards (eg. where figures look etc).

I will now list some example questions:

Card 1 - Finding the root of your problem(s)

Where does my problem stem from?

What happened that triggered this chain of events?

What does most of this mess right now boil down to?

What is at the core of my current issues?

What task am I being confronted with right now?

Card 2 - Finding the place in all of this

What is my role in this current conflict?

Where in this mess is my place right now?

Where am I on the path to solving the problem?

How can I extend my understanding of the problem?

How have my issues progressed so far?

What energy am I currently bringing to this?

Card 3 - Finding a solution

How can I solve this problem/ the issues?

What energy do I need to invite to fix this mess?

What do I need to bring into my life to help me with this?

Whom can I ask for help?

What outcome will the solution that I thought of have?

Obviously you can always draw more cards to get a more detailed and maybe specific answer. Espacially, if you don’t feel able to understand one card to is full extend in answering your question. Then asking a follow-up question can be very helpful and you should never shy away from doing so.

I know big spreads are very popular and that is for good reason, but sometimes the small spreads that can be done quick and dirty just do the work in pushing us in the right direction.

I know I’m posting a lot all at once, but I wanted to share the things from today! 

This one is a mini altar kit for on the go! 

Now if you have a specific spell that you want to do while traveling/ on the go, make sure you add small amounts of the items you need! This is basically just a general cleansing/ must have kit. 

What you’ll need for a general altar: 

-Small tin (This one I got at Michael’s for a dollar) 

-Birthday candles in the colors you need (you can use white as a substitute for any color!) 

-Small pebbles of clear quartz (or crystals you want for specific spells) 

-Cone incense of your choosing (for cleansing/protection) 

-Sage or small pieces of Palo Santo (for cleansing) 

-Lighter for burning candles or herbs 

-Shells large enough to hold incense cones 

-Small vial of moon, rain or ocean water (for cleansing)
