Coming from someone who has been both abused by one and identifies as one, paraphilia awareness is for two main reasons. The prevention and protection from paraphilic abuse. I know that if I knew what a p*dophile was at eleven years old, I wouldn’t have let my counselor touch me ands would have known they’d lose interest practically as soon as I started developing breasts. (BTW: they are safely locked up for at least the next two years 😁) And if I knew was paraphilia was and what causes it at thirteen years old, I would have known I wasn’t broken for my attraction and didn’t deserve the death penalty just for liking kids younger than me. My version of paraphile pride stops demonizing simple unwanted attraction and completely separates predators from the definition of MAP. Paraphilia most often evolves from a traumatic childhood experience and therefore I have no doubt there are millions of silent MAPs suffering with their attraction convinced they are doomed to become their abuser. And do you know what happens when you spend most, if not all, of your conscious life convinced that someday you with inevitably hurt children? You start thinking you have an excuse to hurt children! If you haven’t blown your brain out already, that is. That’s why we as a society need MAP pride! In a world where the only sides of the debate are “attraction to children is bad and if you have those thoughts you can never be a functioning member of society” and “attraction to children is 100% okay and should be encouraged and pushed to everybody”, this is the only middle ground focused on logic and humanist values.
