BIRDTOBER DAY 8: FLAMINGO (American)
The name flamingo comes from the Portugese/Spanish word for flame: flamengo.
Theyâre born a drab grey, but gradually turn pinks and oranges due to their diet. Flamingos eat blue-green algae and brine shrimp, both of which contain a chemical called canthaxanthin; the brighter the feathers, the more desirable the mate.

BIRDTOBER is a month-long event of creativity, good times and a show of love at just how awesome birds are.Â
âHOW DO I PARTICIPATE?
Birdtober starts Octoberâ 1st! Check the daily âPromptâ for inspiration, but a different bird is good too.
Draw your bird for the day! There are no restrictions for media.
Tag your post:Â #birdtober & #birdtober2020Â
Like, Share & Comment on artistâs work!
BUT IâM NOT AN ARTIST?
Birds are for everyone! Feel free to write about birds, photograph birds, share favourite bird memories!Â
(art and prompt by @autodiscothings)
Since last yearâs inktober was pretty much me drawing birds anyway, Iâve decided to make it a thing and just draw my feathered pals everyday.
Any ko-fis donated in OCTOBER will be divided up between my favourite bird charities at the end of the month. I will also hold a raffle of the finished portraits.
So bloody keen for day 8
@fogsblue Iâd say Iâm sorry for using you as the scapegoat for my evil deeds constantly but

Birdtober day 3:Â Pelican (dalmatian)
The Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus) is the largest member of the pelican family, and one of the largest fresh water birds of the world. This pelican prefers warm temperatures and wetlands, and feeds almost entirely on fish.
Compared to the rest of pelican species, theyâre not the most social- and often prefer nesting alone. They have declined in number, mostly due to habitat loss; an estimated 15,000 pelicans are left in the world.
help. i love this game
im projecting personalities onto colors
While Ruth Bader Ginsburgâs death has possibly terrible political consequences for the United States, please also remember she was a Jewish woman who died during the second holiest day of our calendar. Depending on when her family arranges burial (in Judaism, it is done as quickly as possible, but because of her fame, it might be delayed) they might not be able to sit shiva for her because one cannot continue shiva during Yom Kippur. Please also consider Yom Kippur is the holiest day of our year, and not just a day of atonement, but a day when we observe Yizkor, or remembrance of the deceased.
Due to the pandemic, like so many other families, her family will likely have to sit shiva via Zoom and not in person.
Also, the phrase ârest in peaceâ is from the Latin and derived from Christian practices. When a Jewish person dies, it it proper to say âmay their memory be a blessing.â
Please remember we lost a great woman, a great pioneer, a champion of womenâs rights, but also a Jewish family lost their loved one on our new year.

Hi guys, donât usually try to fund raise on this blog, but my family friendâs young son Ryder has been battling neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer, over the past six months or so. Heâs currently at Royal Childrenâs Hospital in Melbourne but theyâre trying to get him to do a trial treatment. However that involves paying for the treatment as well as the various costs of relocating him, his mum and his brother to New York for twelve months.
Anything helps, as do reblogs.
Thanks
I am so with you on thinking Udina could have been way more interesting if they hadn't written him to be a traitor in ME3. That moment where he talks about Arcturus Station is both genuine and heart breaking, and gave me some real sympathy for the guy. Also there's the fact that Shepard could use someone who disagrees with her that doesn't end up either the Bad Guy or written out of the story (like the Council after the Citadel attack) (which was dumb how they disappear I mean come on)
Yes! Yay, Iâm glad someone agreed with me. :)Â I mean, I love Anderson, but câmon, the man is a marine commander, not a diplomat. Udina is genuinely more qualified to be councilor, and it would be interesting for Shepard to have to work with a person that they donât necessarily like, but who has a different and necessary skill set.
I think I started to warm up to Udina when I realized that he actually responds better to a Renegade Shepard back in ME1. He responds badly to a lot of the Paragon-y dialogue; he doesnât like being lectured about ethics or how to do his job by Shepard (who, letâs face it, is much younger and from a completely different line of work). He will still grumble to any Shepard about them making messes for him to clean up, but thereâs a bit of Renegade dialogue along the lines of âYeah, donât tell me how to do my job out there, and I wonât tell you how to do yours in here,â and Udina sort of sighs and goes âokay, fair enough.â That just struck me as a really interesting bit of characterization.
@probablylostrightnow and I at one point developed the vague idea that maybe Cerberus replaced Udina with a clone before the coup attempt (that would, honestly, probably be way more effective than replacing Shepard), and I still kinda like that theory.

@melanienamikaze replied to your post âMy criminal law professor always uses himself and anther professor asâŚâ
Good to know thatâs a crim law prof thing. Because ours did that and I one point he went what if I killed professor [name] with a meat cleaver. It seemed a wee bit too planned.
There is nothing to say that he hasnât repeatedly said this over the years, plotting and perfecting until his students can no longer find a way to convict him. Then, and only then, will he strike.Â
My crim lecturer used movie/TV characters, particularly Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock or Dr. Who. On our crim law exam though, I remember Gandalf was riding a scooter and hit someone in the road, his staff puncturing the victim's chest cavity and killing them.
My tortss lecturer used ither members of the staff though.
