BIO :

dante is a spring warlock born to a a summer witch and a man he’s never met nor given much thought to. why would he need to, when he’s got three perfectly good aunts and a mother he loves more than anything or anyone?

or——sometimes a family can be four summer diviners and their spring son ( think 300 fox way of the raven cycle ). sure, dante’s upbringing was a bit unorthodox, but it was happy. he was happy.

and maybe that’s why he always felt so bad about his pervasive feeling of impostor syndrome. how could he feel so inadequate when he had proven to have incredible magic potential? how could he feel like an outcast when he was so obviously loved? he knew he was privileged in a whole host of ways, so how could he still be unhappy with his lot in life?

dante’s way of dealing with this was to not think about it at all. he threw himself into his various hyperfixations and never really let himself be alone. introspection was both dangerous and overrated, in his mind.

arcane arts (undergrad) was a bit of a mixed bag. socially, he struggled at first——though his family taught him about spring magic and the coven’s social systems, he was obviously raised summer, and it showed, from his party animal nature to his confrontational tendencies. there was an obvious disconnect between him and his housemates. and he wasn’t sure how to breach it.

academically, though——oh. dante began as a rituals/seances specialization ( the best way, in his mind, of reconciling the magic in him with the magic he knew ) but switched to apothecary after an intro class introduced him to the topic. the topic just . . . clicked, like summer magic never did. 

and once that came together, the house came around. it became very clear that dante was incredibly talented at spring magic, something only bolstered by his voracious study habits. that helped him bridge the gap with his house, and he eventually became one of the house’s more prolific students ( in . . . more ways than one, depending on who you talked to ).

dante was on-track to go work in potion-making or healing research. he’s still on-track to go into either of those fields, but he decided that he’d return to arcane arts first in order to study alchemy at the graduate level.

alchemy is the only way to create a panacea, after all, and a panacea is the only thing that can cure his mother, who’s been rather sickly all of dante’s life but whose condition has been drastically worsening.

MISC. BITS : 

dante is the embodiment of the work hard/play hard mentality. he’s always either working, scheming, partying, or flirting ; if he’s not doing one of those things, you ought to be concerned. 

one of the reasons dante’s magic is so strong is that he’s essentially been trying to accomplish off-season magic for most of his life.

he calls his familiar mandu, because the iguana’s attitude is rather comparable to that of a lazy dumpling. 

started his side hustle ( read: drug manufacturing ) as a joke, actually. he had told one of his dear undergraduate friends that of course dante-hyung could procure the good stuff for a party ; when more people started actually hitting him up about it, he began to realize that he could use the business as a way of raising funds for rarer ( read again: more dangerous ) alchemy ingredients. 

stupid knowledgeable about fortune telling/divination, though has little magical aptitude for it. has a personal fondness for summer magic, for obvious reasons.
