IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ
If you’re a UK cat owner PLEASE check your cats food (specifically the dry food) and check it’s nothing on this list
FOLD HILL FOODS LTD IS RECALLING A NUMBER OF PRODUCTS IT MANUFACTURES ON BEHALF OF PARTNER BRANDS - Fold Hill : Fold Hill
There’s a recall of several dry food products due to them potentially causing an extremely serious and likely fatal illness called pancytopenia (destruction of the bone marrow resulting in a lack of all types of blood cells) in multiple cats
If you have been feeding your cat any of these foods stop IMMEDIATELY, keep an eye on your cat and potentially contact your vet
More information from the royal veterinary college who are conducting an investigation, including symptoms to watch out for
RVC Feline Pancytopenia research survey for vets
The cause is not yet confirmed but of the cases recorded in which they know the cats diet the diet is consistent across the cases and a toxin is suspected. If you are concerned for your cat talk to your vet and consider doing a blood test to check the levels of blood cells
Also I did not include the date in the original post but it is 17/06/2021 and this is current
UPDATE (19/06/2021):
There are other dry foods that the company affected (Fold Hill Foods) manufactures for however they are not being released. Wilko has also issued a recall for their dry foods as they are manufactured by this company.
'For now, we recommend that you do not feed them to your cat'
Since Fold Hill Foods are not disclosing what other brands they manufacture for check your dry food for the code GB218E5009 which indicates they were manufactured where the involved foods were. While not currently official advice, if your dry cat food has this code I highly recommend you stop feeding it to your cat.
Update (30/06/2021):
This is still ongoing and the cause has not yet been identified. Do not feed your cat dry food with the factory code GB218E5009 printed on the pack and contact your vet if you have already done so
Just an update as of 5/07/2021 this is still ongoing and the advice remains to not feed your cat these foods
Another update (6/07/2021): current suspicions is that it is a fungus that has contaminated the food. So it is the food.
I’m a dumbass! Last two updates are 08/21
I can’t count
Anyway this is still very current
