       “   you wanted a valentine’s card?   why didn’t you tell me?   i think they’re selling them for cheaper now—if you want,   we can go to the bookstore.   i’ll let you pick whatever card you want.   ”

    “   don’t you feel sorry for the chocolate bunny?   like,   doesn’t that feel inhumane?   i find it really hard to eat animal-shaped anything.   it genuinely feels like i’m committing a crime.   ”

                 over his course of his visits,   dowon had easily memorized the path to nari’s office.   yet he still allowed her to guide him,   though,   as he’d comfortably fallen into that routine.   on their way to the consultation room,   he politely greeted a couple of staff members he recognized.   it wasn’t a weird occurrence for him to be entertained by other nurses while waiting for nari to finish whatever she was doing,   as it was common knowledge amongst them that he refused to be treated by anyone else.

                 ‘   well,   you see,   i was hoping it might work on you   ?   ’   he mentioned,   sounding rather hopeful.   ‘   i have a couple of others,   though,   in case the first pick up line didn’t convince you yet.   ’   only when he was reminded of his   other   purpose for the impromptu visit,   he quickly sat up straighter.   ‘   oh,   i have a paper cut,   actually,   ’   he announced,   holding up his thumb up for her to see.   the wound was barely noticeable,   however,   so dowon winced for good measure.   ‘   i was thinking maybe you could kiss it better   ?   or at least disinfect it.   ’

                    it  was  hard  to  recall  just  how  many  times  she’d  tended  to  dowon  recently  and  even  harder  to  figure  out  why  he’d  singled  her  out  specifically  .  not  when  there  were  plenty  of  other  well  experienced  doctors  and  even  nurses  who  could  easily  see  to  him  .  still  ,  admittedly  ,  he  made  her  smile  even  on  days  where  there  was  nothing  to  smile  about  and  it  seemed  he  had  that  affect  on  her  colleagues  too  as  he  greets  anyone  who  passed  them  on  their  way  to  her  office  —  only  leaving  nari  to  shrug  it  off  and  focus  on  doing  her  job  .

                 looking  up  from  his  notes  ,  hues  meet  his  gaze  as  if  to  wait  for  him  to  tell  her  he  was  only  kidding  —  the  moment  never  comes  however  and  she  sits  not  knowing  what  to  say  .  sure  she’d  had  others  try  to  flirt  or  hit  on  her  but  they  tended  to  be  drunk  or  concussed  and  dowon  was  currently  neither  .  choosing  to  focus  on  his  finger  for  now  ,  she  reaches  to  put  some  gloves  on  before  sliding  her  chair  closer  to  his  .  “  you  know  ,  a  paper  cut  doesn’t  warrant  a  trip  to  the  hospital  ,  i  can  write  down  what  you  need  to  disinfect  for  next  time  or  in  this  case  —  the  name  of  some  good  plasters  to  put  on  paper  cuts  .  ”  she  half  jokes  ,  taking  his  hand  into  hers  and  inspecting  the  very  minor  cut  before  looking  to  him  ,  “  kissing  you  anywhere  wouldn’t  be  very  professional  ,  not  to  mention  this  isn’t  the  time  or  the  place  .  ”

dawn had half a mind to lie and say nothing was wrong - she didn’t do this, didn’t let people see the softer side of her. her walls were always up. so why let the crack in her armor show? “because you’re the most tolerable person on my contact list. i’m in no way saying I want to hold hands and sing kumbayah, but if I were to suggest stocking up on junk food and maybe some wine and hanging out, would you want to?” she closed her eyes, chuckling in spite of herself. “it’s kinda lame, but I don’t really feel like being by myself right now.”

             pen  was  never  a  person  to  actually  shy  away  from  things.  at  the  very  contrast  ,   she  always  dares  to  do  things  that  other  people  refuses  to.  she  is  also  guilty  of  running  from  the  dormitory  from  the  academy  at  nights  to  just  have  fun.  she  is  just  lucky  she  never  got  caught.   now  ,   here  she  is  at  a  very  expensive  hotel  for  the  weekend    —-   something.  it  was  an  event  that  her  little  brother  forced  her  to  go  instead  of  him.  at  least  he  owes  her  now.     ‘    come  on.  it’s  going  to  be  so  fun  if  we  just  go  there   ,   act  like  a  married  couple  and  actually  get  the  honeymoon  suite.  there  is  a  whole  hottub  there   !   and  a  huge  balcony.  i’m  sure  even  the  service  is  top-tier   !   i  promise  it’ll  be  fine   !    ’

                    well  ,  this  was  awkward  .  sujin  knew  there  was  the  chance  this  could  happen  ,  but  she  didn’t  think  it’d  happen  now—  not  when  she’d  already  put  so  many  cards  on  the  table  .  leave  it  up  to  her  to  get  her  hopes  up  right  ?  besides  ,  this  was  a  party—  they  were  supposed  to  be  having  fun  .  she  lets  out  a  silly  laugh  ,  one  that’s  a  little  wetter  than  she  wanted  it  to  be  ,  but  also  in  hopes  that  it’d  interrupt  the  hurt  in  front  of  her  right  now  .  ‘  i  ,  sorry—  ’  she  says  after  a  minute  and  decides  to  divert  the  conversation  in  literally  any  direction  .  ‘  e - everyone’s  kinda  ticked  …  um  ,  there’s  no  more  tequila  and  i  don’t  know  where  it  is  .  ’

                ‘   you’re late,   ’   miya stated,   offering him a pointed look before shifting her attention towards the clock behind him.   fortunately enough his tardiness would never cause any   real   problems.   no one was foolish enough to call out the man who owned the entire establishment.   years of experience taught that he simply wouldn’t hesitate to make miya type up a termination letter before the end of the night.   nevertheless she still found great joy in calling him out sometimes   —   ultimately believing that she was the one who kept him humble while he was on his way to becoming one of the most powerful men in las vegas.   ‘   no one started without you,   i made sure of that.   they’re currently waiting for you to initiate game night,   though.   ’

━   “what   do   you   mean?!”   he   laughs   over   her   shoulder   as   his   eyes   scan   the   menu.   “i   can’t   be   that   awful   to   work   with   that   you’d   regret   eating   with   me?!”   he’s   laughing   but   he   really   hopes   that   wasn’t   how   suri   viewed   him.   he   tried   his   best   not   to   be   overly   demanding   nor   harsh   on   the   people   that   worked   with   him;   especially   not   suri.   whether   she   knew   it   or   not,   minnie   saw   everything   she   did   for   him,   how   good   she   was   at   her   job,   how   determined   she   was   to   deliver.   her   drive   &   passion   was   one   of   the   reasons   why   he’d   grown   particularly   fond   of   her,   often   thinking   about   her   outside   of   working   parameters.   did   she   feel   it   too?   the   tension   between   them   at   times,   when   they   caught   eyes   but   no   words   were   spoken.   he   wasn’t   sure.   he   sure   as   hell   knew   he   felt   some   kind   of   way   for   her.   “how   about   we   get   both   and   just   share?   i   can   do   tacos   and   the   curly   fries   seem   like   a   good   compromise.”   his   eyes   glance   up   to   catch   hers.   “we’ll   get   some   wine   too   …   do   you   prefer   white   or   red?”
