Marc, God of Flowers and the Spring (aka Persephone)
Olympus: Tall and lithe build, Shoulder-length, wavy black hair, woven with small pink flowers, tanned skin with patches of freckles from being in the sun, bright emerald green eyes with patches of blue and yellow, rosy lips and cheeks. Wreath of daisies, lavender and wild roses on his head, lavender chiton with various flower patterns stitched across the hem, belt of woven ivy, silver bangles engraved with roses, simple silver sandals.
Underworld: Slightly taller and lithe build, Back-length, wild black hair with blood red rose petals falling from it, tanned skin with runes of the Underworld emblazoned on his upper arms, bright emerald green eyes with a ring of crimson around the rim, black sclera, and long dark eyelashes, dark red lips, violet flames jumping around his feet. Wreath of asphodel, blood red roses and onyx skulls with ruby eyes, onyx necklace with a ruby rose pendant, black silk chiton that pools around his feet, translucent blood red cape, belt of thorny vines, black heeled sandals.
Bio: If you were to look at Marc as he appears when he’s in the Upperworld, at first glance you likely wouldn’t identify him as the co-ruler of the Underworld, husband and partner to the Lord of the Dead. Marc above most things is a god of duality, a gentle and kind deity of the blooms and the warm seasons, and the cool-headed and resolved hand that helps Nathaniel manage the Underworld. In the latter role he’s both an intimidating force not to be trifled with and a gentle touch that soothes new souls arriving in the Underworld, especially of those who passed far before their time. He’s generally known to dislike conflict and would much rather tend to his flowers than engage in disputes on Olympus, always opting for peaceful conflict resolution whenever possible. But even with as gentle and kind as this god is known to be, it’s highly unwise to anger him, and one of the quickest ways to do this is threatening those he cares for most, his husband and family. If you’re foolish enough to do this…let’s just say you’ll remember very quickly that Marc is a literal force of nature.
Standing amongst other immortals, Marc is a bit of an…unusual case. The reason for this being that he belongs to both the world of the living and the world of the dead. He is both the god that helps bring life back to the world when Spring comes and the king that rules alongside Nathaniel over the souls of the departed. Neither of these roles takes greater precedence over the other and it’s why his appearance is altered depending on which realm he’s currently in. Both sides are equally beautiful and equal parts a reflection of his true self.
As you might expect with being the god of the Springtime, Marc plays an important role in the changing of the seasons, serving as his sister’s right hand in making sure that the rhythms of nature run their course at the right time. Each year when it’s time for the Winter to move on, Marc will come up from the Underworld and help Mylène in ushering in the warm seasons, making the flowers bloom, bringing creatures out of hibernation and restoring color to the vegetation. It’s because of this that he’s worshipped as a god of rebirth.
Like his sister and Juleka, Marc is a deity that is known as a friend to the nymphs. In general, they adore him and flock around him whenever he comes to visit Earth. He counts several among his closest friends. He cares for them as much as they do him and often goes out of his way to help them, like he did with his old friend, Sora, who was being obsessively pursued by the girl-turned-monster, Lovelle. He gave him the ability to disguise himself as a mint plant and a place to hide in the Underworld. He also was the first to petition to allow a nymph to change realms, changing his friend Owen to change from a naiad to a lampade, a nymph of the Underworld, to get him away from his family.
