A Friendship Like Love
read it hereĀ by Flawedamythyst
Summary:
A friendship like love is warm; a love like friendship is steady.Ā - Thomas More
Mars:
This fic takes a cliched trope and makes it special. What could have been some shallow fluff becomes something deep and meaningful with Flawedamythyst's clear and beautiful writing and the addition of a confessed backstory surrounding John's limp. It is very much like the quote implies: this could be the beginnings (or the continuation?) of a love between John and Sherlock, romantic or platonic, and it's a significant event for both of them. John shares a traumatic story, and Sherlock (in his own way) shares a bit of himself, too. There are many interesting fandom explanations for his limp, and this is one of my favorites.Ā
Will:
One of the first aspects of the fic that jumps out at me is flawedamythyst's writing and how she can capture the voice of Sherlock and John. The pithy and snide remarks John has internally and Sherlock's mixture of blunt, stuccoed dialogue and body language displays are all veryĀ BBC Sherlock. For me the fic is split into two sections. In the beginning, the author exemplifies the dynamic that Sherlock and John have together and a few motifs (jumpers, sulking Sherlock, etc.). The latter half is all about John's hurt and his story from Afghanistan. Finally, the last few paragraphs display how John and Sherlock have the potential to fit quite well with each other.Ā

Summary:
No one who enters old London ever comes out. They say that the beast devours them. When his sister disappears, John ventures into the dead zone beyond the wall, and finds a brilliant madman under a terrible curse⦠(Note: Now with Chinese Translation in the works)
Notes: ForĀ siehn.
This story is loosely based off of beauty and the beast with nods to various fairy tales. The title is a line from the poem āOde to a Nightingaleā by John Keats. This will have 7-8 parts.
The Detective
read it hereĀ (illustrated version!) by LotheringtonĀ
Summary:Ā John Watson was seven years and three months old when he first met His Raggedy Detective. He wasnāt expecting the bright red telephone box to crash land in his back garden in the middle of the night, but then, who ever expected such a silly thing to happen in the first place?
Mars:
I'm fond of this fic. It would seem to be unoriginal, but the tiny moments and comments about The Detective distance it from the Doctor Who version that we know and love. A telephone box instead of a police box, a sonic lighter instead of a sonic screwdriver...all of it is lovely and feels like Sherlock. I think Lotherington does a marvelous job at making this feel like it is Sherlock,Ā as a Time Lord,Ā and not as if it just The Doctor with Sherlock-ish characteristics. Yes, he seems brighter and more lighthearted than his London counterpart, but that's because he has the joy and freedom of a time traveler.Ā
Will:
Although there were some original ideas about how to convert the great Sherlock Holmes into The Detective (Time Lord), I couldn't get past the predominance of "Eleventh Hour" parallels
Although I didn't dislike it, I think this is more of a germ of an idea
I'd be interested in reading a brand new adventure of The Detective and John

A Brief History of Johns
Read it here by Lavvyan
Summary:Ā Sherlock buries John Six in the bed of Johns at the back of the garden, between the tulips and the daffodils.
Synopsis (according to Will. SPOILERS FOR THE FIC)Ā "A Brief History of Johns" is about how Sherlock grew up with various animal companions (not pets, they had significance for him). From when Sherlock was 2 years old to 22 years old, he had one of these companions in his life. The first was named John, and in order to recreate those same emotional attachments, Sherlock named the successive animals "John Two," "John Three," etc. John is a "safe name."Ā Ultimately, Sherlock "outgrows" the pattern and attempts to continue his existence on the dull Earth without a John. He falls into addictions, emerges as a consulting detective, and then finds himself in need of a flatmate. This flatmate's name is John.
Will:
Ā What I like about this fic is that there is a foreknowledge as a reader that eventually John Watson will emerge in the narrative. With that John the final "John," what do the Ā previous John's offer to the story? The first John, John-the-mouse, was lost and assumed eaten by a wild animal. Only the first and the last Johns have hyphenated names (John-the-mouse and John-the-human). These two represent the ideal companion, while the numbered Johns were all attempts by young Sherlock to recreate his initial connection to John-the-mouse. Now with John-the-human (John Watson), Sherlock will have "the best one yet. Everything will be alright."
Mars:Ā
I really adore this fic because it may be my favorite kind of fic: Sweet, emotional and a bit achy, and definitely mad. I like this fic because it has inevitability. For instance, I imagine that one day John will do something illuminating and Sherlock will be so exhilarated andĀ proudĀ and just be overwhelmed and turn to John and ask "What took you so long?" and it reminded me of "A Study in Sherlock" by ArianeDavereĀ Ā because yeah, it's Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, and the extraordinary thing about these two men is that they're timeless, immutable,Ā inevitable.Ā I really enjoyed the mentions of Sherlock's life around him. His drug problem, the chaos of the world that the can't notĀ Ā notice, ("Everything; That is my curse.") and his relationships with his mother, his father, Mycroft, how they've deteriorated, and because Sherlock was without his John. I love Lavvyn also because of her writing style. "He continues to get along on his own. It's hateful. Time between cases stretches out infinitely, aeons between each tick of the clock as dust motes crash into each other. His violin only manages dissonance. Experiments crumble into dullness before he has finished setting them up.Ā "Ā She's a breathtaking writer, and this is a breathtaking piece.Ā

"What's on this table is a body, and that body can be useful to me. If it's difficult for you to see, then in the future you can wait outside."
Notes:
I wrote this a while ago because, let's face it, I've been more than a little unemployed. Was intended as Sherlock/John, but can be read as good old platonic friendship. If that's your thing. Whatever shakes your boat.
Five Times Sherlock Realised This Was Different and One Time He Admitted It
Read itĀ hereĀ by Starjenni
John makes Sherlock's life different.
It's such an easy thing toĀ say, and yet Sherlock cannot fit this seemingly simple fact around his otherwise genius mind, cannot work out exactlyĀ howĀ he did it, how it happened, how he let it happen (is it a good thing? Is it?). John is here, where there was no one before, and it is different. That is about all he can bring himself to realise.
Explosions, Literal and Otherwise

Sherlock does not react well to the idea that John might be dead.Ā
Sherlock, An Untidied Mind
read it hereĀ by TartinficsĀ
Sherlock has always been glad he doesnāt remember dreams--too distracting, too nonsensical; they fill space in the brain in improbable ways, unnecessarily large for something which doesnāt matter.
Mars:
"I love this fic. IĀ like the unabashed references to other thingsĀ (QI, HP),Ā
I like how Sherlock took John's offence at him deleting the solar system to heart, and he put it (subconsciously) in a safe and un-deletable place. IĀ also love, like a reviewer put it, that it shows how John is changing Sherlock, or, how Sherlock is allowing himself to be changed by John, even if very subtly.Ā I also like how the "important" thing wasn't just the chinese menu, or the cd, but that it was something special from john (SENTIMENT BWAHH),Ā the gift, "something you'd like, Sherlock." and an odd evening when they talk over dinner and dont have a case onĀ and actually talk to each other, "not about work", but as friends.
its a story about Sherlock's priorities and how he, maybe, needs John.
Ā Will:
This is the pre-John Sherlock,Ā the completely rational machine of Sherlock. Now that John's showed up, there is a new clutter in Sherlock's mind, because items no longer hold merely denotation. There are connotations of experience, sentiment, and care,Ā even if Sherlock can't really notice it yet. He's keeping the CD and the menu not for their spot in his catalogue of data for inductive reasoning later on,Ā he's keeping them because of the baggage they carry, the personal memory they hold.
