meme day asks <33

It had been a busy night at the club, though Norah almost preferred it that way. She had just finished a set on stage and decided to take a quick breather before making some rounds, heading over to the bar. "If it isn't one of my favorite bartenders." Norah teases with a grin, leaning up against the counter. "Can I get a club soda with lime?"
“and if it isn’t one of my favorite dancers.” she replied back with a grin, which wasn’t a lie. though, brinley just tended to like all of the dancers, but norah was definitely up there in their top three anyways. “you got it, i had a feeling you’d be coming over wanting one.” they teased, turning away for just a moment before returning with the drink. “how’s the night been?”

It’s a pretty quiet day at The Third Eye, though Vince doesn’t really mind. Gia is napping away in her Pack ‘n Play while he works on setting up a new display, putting out some new items that had just come in the day’s mail. He’s busy inspecting the shelf when he hears the bell on the door ring, turning to see whoever is walking in. “Welcome to The Third Eye, how can I help you today?”
between maia coming back into her life and bowie needing some inspiration for her next song with grave danger, she thought she’d try something new. and one thing she hadn’t done yet was go to the third eye, which was surprising because it’s right up her alley. but today was the perfect day for it. “hi!” she greeted with a smile, practically bouncing up on her feet when she entered. “i’m here for a reading.”
"you have any big summer plans?" kai asks, offering ben a smile. summer vacations were always fun, though since his kids were grown, they didn't take as many trips as they used to. still, they tried to get the whole family together as often as they could, as busy as they all were. a weekend trip with diego sounded nice too, though they weren't sure if that was in the cards for them this summer. one could hope though. "i'm good. family's good. busy. you know how it is. being empty nesters is still an adjustment, to be honest."
“i volunteered myself for summer school again and that starts up soon. it’s usually a 50/50 shot if the kids want to be there, but i try to make it fun.” though, could that be considered a big summer plan? he and the kids weren’t doing a big vacation that year, so really that was his big thing this summer. “oh i can only imagine, i’m already feeling that with just fletcher out of the house at times. i dread the day my youngest is out of the house and becoming a real adult.”

Stopping by Main Squeeze after a long afternoon at Swolemates had become a bit of a tradition for Esme. Moving out of line to wait for her smoothie, she spots a semi-familiar face also waiting for their drink, moving to wait over by the counter near them. "Hey coach, long time no see." Esme teases, smiling softly. "How've you been?"
a big part of being a teacher was having summers off, unless that teacher was ben. he always was the first to volunteer himself for summer school and they typically would start soccer a bit early too before the school year. but summer school ended a bit early today so he decided it was the perfect time for a smoothie. he turned his head when he heard a familiar voice, offering her a grin. “hey! i’ve been pretty good, staying busy. how about you?”

A night at the brewery with an old friend seemed exactly like what the doctor ordered. And by doctor, they meant themself. Both Kai and Benjamin were kept pretty busy with their jobs, but if one thing was important to them, it was making time for the people that were important. Ordering a beer flight and a couple of baskets of fries, they wait for him to arrive, waving them over once they see the brunette walk through the door. “Hey! I ordered for us already, help yourself. It’s been too long, how have you been?”
his conversation with the girl at the coffee shop had remained on ben’s mind, more than it probably should have. but there was something about her that he couldn’t quite shake. she reminded him a lot of fletcher in a way, but why was that? they had very different personalities.
but when kai suggested hanging out, ben was quick to agree. he was glad to see his friend mostly, but another part of ben was also ready for the distraction from his own thoughts. and to be around someone who wasn’t his own daughters or his students. he grinned when he got over to the table, taking a seat next to him. “oh that’s perfect, i’ve been good, kids just got out of school so that’s always a good time. how about you?”
No. He didn't get to show her sympathy when he was the reason she was in the place she was. Sure she had always dreamed of having a conversation with her dad but Maia still couldn't face the chance of him knowing it was her and still saying the things he was, that would have wrecked her. "Didn't have much of a choice, Mom kicked me out and there really wasn't a possibility of staying where I was. So I came here." She said with a shrug. Maia knew what he meant though, it was hard to get out and every day she fought the itching to get back into it somehow. "How do you know they never needed you?"
"Really? Mine too but I think the history behind it is a lot more interesting than the actual book itself if I'm being honest." Maia tried not to feel a bit jealous of her other sisters but especially Fletcher. The fact that he could talk about them so freely whereas she was sure she had never crossed his mind as soon as he left. "Well it's a cute name, shame her mother didn't want it." She smiled a bit but it didn't quite meet her eyes. "You don't say! It really is a beautiful place. But it seems like you really lucked out here in Denver, huh?" Maia officially figured out that she didn't get her smarts from her father. She didn't know how many more hints she could provide to him so he would get it.
he knew the girl probably didn’t want her sympathy but she had it even more as she detailed what her mother did. at least when ben left kora, he could rest easy knowing that she was going to be able to take care of their daughter with ease. sure, kora wasn’t the greatest person but it was hard to imagine a version of kora that could have done what this girl was describing happened to her. “that sounds awful, i’m sorry to hear that, truly. what about your dad, is he in the picture? my girls always know that they can come to me when things get bad.” he sympathized with her, offering her a gentle smile. “they were independent, they didn’t need me weighing them down. i know that they were just fine without me.”
“it is, but i think she just hated most of the things i suggested. especially while she was pregnant. i’d never talk badly about the mother of any of my children but i do not envy whoever may have had to deal with her while pregnant again.” kora was good, for the most part but her being pregnant definitely added an extra amount of stress that none of them needed. but their daughter coming out of it was good, thats one thing he wouldn’t complain about, even if she wouldn’t let him name her frankie. “i did, i really did. i’m not sure what type f person i’d be today if i didn’t make the trip here. i think if you set roots down here, you’d be set for life.”
Had fixing himself been the plan? Yeah and he thought that he had achieved that much. And he would have called Oliver. He would have, but the other had called him first - called him high. At that point, Gio had been too new in his recovery to deal with it. He didn't know what he was supposed to do about anything! Oliver couldn't fault him for that. There were a lot of other things he could fault him for, but that? Gio thought that he had an excuse for.
"Did you want me to leave a note? I didn't have time! You knew I was leaving! You watched me leave!" It didn't mean that they thought Gio would be leaving for good. It didn't mean they would have thought that he was walking out on the whole relationship. And it was what he had done. He had run and he'd run far. The fact that their paths had collided was nothing but a coincidence, brought upon by... well, he had no idea what brought it up. If there was a higher power out there, they were laughing at Gio right now.
The way Oliver was questioning if he'd ever loved him got under Gio's skin. He wasn't angry. He was hurt. How had he not proven that when they were together? It wasn't - it might have seemed like he had thrown everything that they had away, but he needed to make a change. It took him a couple days to realize that and maybe it was too little, too late. There was no way he was going to be able to change that. "I did! I do love you, Ollie, but I needed to clear my head. I needed... I left and I got really high for a few days. I did. And I - I didn't feel good! I didn't! I thought it was what I wanted, but what I wanted was you and you wanted me to be clean. So... I was going to get clean. I didn't think you'd take me back when I wasn't and then you relapsed and I.... I didn't know what to do!" And that said nothing of the guilt that Gio felt over the situation.
oliver was glad that gio got better, so glad that he was much better than the last time they saw each other. but what they didn’t like was the way that gio essentially cut off all contact with him. even at their worst moments, oliver knew he would have never done the same thing to him. he understood that what he did on that night with the pills wasn’t great, but it was clearly the push the other needed to get clean. but of course, they’d never get to know that for sure because gio left them without a second thought.
“i thought you were coming back! why would i think you were leaving for good? even at your worst, i still thought the man i fell in love with would have given me the decency to let me know he was leaving.” he said, his voice a mixture of bitterness and hurt. oliver wasn’t even sure the emotion they were feeling in the moment, it felt like they were feeling every negative emotion all at the same time. “i didn’t know if you were dead or alive for days, oliver. i didn’t know if you were dead in some ditch somewhere, don’t you get that?” and that’s when his relapse started. it was a high pressure situation and it was clear that oliver couldn’t handle high stress as well as he thought.
gio said that he loved him and he wanted to believe him, if oliver was weaker he may have just believed him instantly. but then they remembered the days and weeks that followed their breakup and those emotions all came back at once. it was true that oliver still loved gio, because he didn’t think he could ever stop loving him. but without the drugs and adrenaline rushes, was their love ever real or were they holding on to something they both created in a drug induced stupor? “you didn’t know what to do? i was there for you gio! i was willing to marry you, when i was going to be asked for better or for worse i would have said yes in a heartbeat. but could you have done the same? things got worse and you ran! did you ever even love me or did you just love the idea you created of me when we were on four day bender?!”
“trust me, I get it. I’ve got one of my own. they always find a way to worry us, huh ? ” though charlie didn’t ever stray too far, both dog and owner dependant on one another. at the name given, ace smiles and nods slowly, before it finally sinks in where he’s heard it before. “chip ? potato chip ? huh…” he does his best to hide the way his eyes widen. It hadn’t been too long ago that gio was telling ace the name of his dog, who was under the care of his ex. ace was now pretty sure this was said ex. to say he felt awkward would be a massive understatement, and he can’t decide if he should mention the other or not. he chooses not. “cool name. how’d you come up with that ? ” he asks, just to double check he’s not mistaken. It could, after all, simply be a weird coincidence.
“without fail, it seems. sometimes i wonder if she does it on purpose, like she’s got this big diabolical plan against me. but then i remember she’s just a sweet dog who has no ulterior motives... i think.” he chuckled a bit, shaking their head. “not the most common name, i know but my uh.... ex, yeah my ex he and i found her one night at the gas station. she was going to town on a family size bag of potato chips and came over to us with the bag still on her head. ever since then, she’s been with us and then men when we broke up.” the more he thought about first getting chip made him realize that she may have already had a family and he and gio stole her. but it was a little too late for that one, so it was fine.

“Oh trust me I get it. Sometimes those leashes are the worst.” Bianca said as if she knew all about it. She was still a new dog owner so she still had a lot to learn. “She’s definitely a cutie! What’s her name?” She asked before reaching down to pet her. “Oh yeah this is name to be determined but currently Susan. I’ve had her for a week. She does this thing where she does something to piss me off but then licks my face and all is forgiven because she’s the most adorable thing on the planet.”
“my own fault for going to amazon, i obviously should have been a good pet owner and gotten it at the pet store.” was their quality better? oliver wasn’t sure, but it was possible they could have something better. something that chip wouldn’t slide right out of, not right away at least. they were sure that she’d find her way out of it eventually but they wanted to at least make it a challenge. “i mean, fair enough. if someone were to make me mad and do the same thing, i’m not sure if i could stay mad at them.” he paused, thinking about it. “well maybe not licking, but like... kissing you know?”
"oh, hush. you know you're perfectly fine as long as you pick up after yourself and help around the house a little." norah replies with a wave of her hand, glancing back at her brother. she didn't expect much from oliver, but as long as he stuck to the few ground rules they had laid out, then they were more than welcome to stay for as long as they wanted. norah liked having ollie around, and so did her kids. they were all enjoying getting to know him.
"i wasn't much of a cook either until i had mouths to feed. you learn as you go. but if there's anything you want for dinner or anything, please let me know. i'm happy to make whatever. within reason, of course. i'm no michelin star chef!" the brunette laughs, shaking her head. norah's laughter quickly dies at the mention of giovanni, brow furrowing slightly. "are you alright? do i need to go speak with him?"
“or a lot, at least i try to help a lot. chip tries to help too sometimes.” or she just knocks over things from the table. but that only happened like... twice. and it didn’t break anything thankfully. she was a saint who could actually never do anything wrong. oliver was just glad that these were working out so well, that he had been able to start over so easily. not just that, but he got to do it with his family, the family that matters at least. he hadn’t felt this welcomed since his mom died.
“could have fooled me! i’ve give you like... at least a four star rating. i don’t think you’ve made a bad dish yet.” if she had oliver would never tell her that though. he chewed on his lower lip a bit anxiously, quickly shaking his head. “no, definitely not. i appreciate that but... no. i’m okay, i think? i don’t know, i just wasn’t expecting to see him. and it was like those feelings just all came back to me all at once. the good and bad ones.”

Halona had been chilling at the Night and Dine, enjoying her usual fries and chocolate shake. It was a part of her Sunday routine that gave her peace of mind. She had been doing this since her freshman year in high school so she always relished in the old diner.
A familiar face slid her booth "What's up? Wanna fry?" She offered before stuffing a few in her mouth
their night before hadn’t ended until 3 am. part of that was because of normal club hours, but another part of that was them staying well past their time off. they weren’t even working, just got drunk with their coworkers and they were paying the price for it this morning. it was a miracle brinley even made it out of their apartment to go to the diner for some food. something greasy should get them through it.
they spotted a familiar face and made a beeline for that table, grinning at the immediate offer. “fuck yeah i do.” they said, reaching out to grab a fry and take a bite. “oh you know, went a little too hard last night. how about you?”

head tilted to the side, dov inspects the painting in front of him, lips pursed in thought. "i don't get it." he says after a few moments, gesturing towards the piece of artwork. "what do you think it means?"
“i think it means someone had too much time on their hands, personally.” brinley mused, head tilting to either side as they observed the painting in front of them. they certainly weren’t an art person by any means and they definitely weren’t interested in what was happening in front of them. “but i guess that’s like... the whole point of some of these right? up for interpretation?”
There were two sides to every story, but the story Gio had to tell wasn't one that he wanted to. Wasn't that a factor? It certainly felt like one. The real story painted him as a villain. Maybe that was the truth of the matter. He was the bad guy, but Gio had his reasons. However poorly thought out they were, they'd seemed imperative at that moment in time. Now that he thought about them. there wasn't a bit of that which seemed to matter.
His hand went up to absently scratch at the back of his neck. "I was angry. I acted in anger. I wasn't thinking. It wasn't like I did it to hurt you. I did it because... because I didn't know what else to do!" Gio didn't want to replay the argument in his head. There were many things that he said that he regretted. The primary one was the fact that he'd told Oliver that he couldn't stay. He could have; he should have. In that moment, it had felt impossible to stay. Now, it felt impossible to go. He would stand here all day, on the street and hashing things out with Oliver, if he could.
He hadn't tried. He had been so full of anger that he couldn't think of anything else other than getting out of there. Running - that was what Giovanni was good at. When he was younger, he had traveled all the time. He could blame that, if he wanted to. The truth was instead that he had been angry about the pills and it clouded his judgement. Their history, their relationship - none of it had been on his mind. "I - look. You don't think I regret what happened? I do! But I couldn't leave then just... walk back in on your life like it was nothing! I know I messed up! I just want to fix it!" Was it too late? It couldn't be, not with Oliver's words. "So you... you can't say it because it's not true. You... you love me still. You love me as much as I love you."
they were holding a grudge, maybe even being a bit petty or stubborn about it. but oliver felt like it was justified to say the least. all they ever wanted to do was live a sober life with gio and they were never able to get that. instead what he ended up getting was bombarded months later at an NA meeting in a town that oliver was trying to have a fresh start in. and the worst part about it, was that one look at the other was nearly enough to make them weak in the knees. it would have been so easy to forgive and forget, but was that really the best option int hat moment?
“intent behind it doesn’t matter giovanni! it doesn’t matter how you intended it the facts are that you left me there. i didn’t even get to say goodbye, i didn’t even know where you were! you left me high and dry.” he said, his voice breaking up just a bit but oliver was quick to clear his throat. because that was not how this was going to happen. they had cried enough over gio, oliver could be strong about this. he would be strong about this.
they were finally picking up the pieces that gio had left shattered back in their apartment in chicago. oliver wasn’t ready to reopen those wounds, not now and maybe not ever. they were glad that the other was in a good place, but was it good enough to risk months of work that oliver had put in for his road to getting clean? “did you ever love me, giovanni? or did you just love what i represented at that time? someone who loves their fiance doesn’t leave them like that. i was so in love with you, i love you so much and you just..” he trailed off, shaking his head as he quickly blinked his eyes to ward off any tears that threatened to fall. “you just left, like our years together meant nothing to you.”

Owen grinned as he kept his eyes on them, giving a nod of his head at the thanks. Not wanting to come off at as rude, Owen quickly gestured towards his ear and gave a shake of his head, letting them know that he couldn’t hear. With Lady’s leash in one hand, Owen reached for his phone and slid over to his notes app, quickly typing back his reply. You’re welcome, no trouble as well. I swear, trouble is this one’s middle name- He gestured down to Lady. Every time I open the door to leave she thinks it’s a good time to make a mad dash to freedom. Owen let out a laugh and shake of his head. Owen by the way, nice to meet you. And that one is Lady. He grinned, turning his phone around once more.
when oliver realized that the other was deaf, his eyes went wide as he felt a bit guilty. like maybe they should have been more considerate but before he could think properly, he was quick to go “oh shit, sorry man!” out loud before quickly getting his phone out to mirror what owen was doing. they then proceeded to type out oh shit, sorry man!!! and gave him an apologetic smile. he read what the other was typing and nodded along, going back to typing on his phone as well. i swear chip is always out to get me too, just because she’s in a new city means she’s a new dog or something. i’m oliver, she’s chip. short for potato chip.
long and exhausting walks that was a must on Genevieve day, not solely because she was a very active person but as well because peanut, her 130lbs giant dog that was mostly used to the farm life and now confined to the apartment -even though a big one it was not enough. On days that she was less busy she used to go on hikes but since she still had some school paperwork to go through so a long walk needed to be enough. Almost one hour in her walk she heard someone asking her to grab a dog, she asked peanut to lay down and grabbed a treat of her pocket, offering to the runaway dog. “uh you know you want this, come here baby, i got you a bunch of tricks.” Said extra friendly trying to attract the animal to her direction and grabbing it at the first opportunity she had. “And that’s on one of the many reasons why i always keep treats on me, here we go, do you want to pass me her collar?”
how chip managed to slip out of her collar, oliver will never know. she was sneaky like that, much like the night that he and gio found her. maybe she was acting out, being in a new town wasn’t easy. either that or she was just an asshole at times, which was also a very acceptable answer too. and they couldn’t really fault the dog for that either. she did have to go through quite a few adjustments moving from their old place in chicago to one in denver that had more people in it. though, she did get a lot more attention at the house and they knew she ate it up. once oliver caught up to chip, they handed over the collar. “you’re a saint, truly. saved my ass, that’s for sure. i owe you one.”
