"Omg why do people like Percy Jackson? It's so simple! Read something complex!"
It's for middle schoolers.

"Why hasn't the writing improved? The audience grew up, the writing should mature as well!"
An author is not obligated to change the way they write because you, the reader grew up.
"Pah! How can any adult like this? I'm glad I actually have a brain and don't enjoy childish things!"
Because some people feel seen by the fact the protagonist is a troubled child with ADHD and dyslexia. Hell, I felt seen, and I don't have ADHD or dyslexia!
Tldr: I am BEGGING people to realise that just because they grew up, doesn't mean Rick Riordan has to change his writing style to match that. Can it feel annoying at times? Yes and you're valid for feeling that but god just because you're no longer a kid, doesn't mean someone used to writing for middle schoolers suddenly has to change to suit your age.
Maybe it's my fault for hoping the subreddit would show me cool things instead of just posts bitching about the writing and the tv show making changes but I'm getting so tired of seeing people whine that a series not written for adults isn't 'mature enough'.
Fandom Problem #14,484:
People in general need to learn to find out what authors actually wanted in the books vs what editors forced them to put in there before judging an author by their literature.
Example:
A lot of people assume Robert E Howard was a sexist pervert because of all the scantily clad women described in detail in the Conan series. However, we have letters he wrote to other authors where he openly complained that the editors were making him write sexual scenes when he actually wanted to focus on world building.
We also have letters he wrote and the stories themselves showing that he was arguing in favor of more strong female leads in fantasy, regularly introduced female characters who were stronger than or equal to Conan in battle prowess, defended the accomplishments of women, and he attempts to address women's issues in many of his stories. He was actually considered very feminist during his time.
Editors pressuring authors to add or remove things they don't want to is a common occurrence. You can't judge an author's beliefs by their literature, because you don't know how much interference occurred.
Fandom Problem #14,429:
What the Harry Potter boycott is supposed to be: Don't gove Rowling any more money, because she's donating it to shady causes. Do whatever else you want so long as you're not lining her pockets with cash.
What half the internet turned it into: SHOW YOUR MORAL PURITY BY REFUSING TO GAZE UPON THIS UNHOLY TEXT! HARASS ANYONE WHO EVEN MENTIONS THE WORD MUGGLE!
It's only a matter of time before the latter group completely forgets the purpose of the boycott and starts buying her books just to publicly burn them, lining her pockets just so they can look morally superior...just like when the series first came out.

I don't know how to explain to people how much brown haired representation means to me.
Today brown hair is kinda the default, but when I was a kid, most of the girls in shows and movies I watched didn't typically have brown hair. I spent a chunk of my childhood thinking my brown hair was "boring' and unappealing. All I had at the time was Dorothy, Belle, Hermione, and my Mom. Most of the other brunette women and girls weren't in kids shows, or weren't the main character.
Now that I'm comfortable with my hair, it irks me when someone changes the hair color of any character (be they blonde, red head, brunette, etc), because I know what it's like to essentially be told that your hair color isn't as good looking as another. But I feel like I can't bring it up because someone will think I'm "trying to be oppressed so bad!" Not all representation has to be related to oppression! Sometimes someone just needs to be told, "You're beautiful the way you are."

If someone's confidently presenting their dumb headcanons as fact you're not going to move them by presenting canon evidence to the contrary because they already know it's not true and they're just trying to get a rise out of stupid people who fall for the bait like you. Queer leading is when fans hype up a queer relationship in a show, usually a fanon ship, as if it’s definitely going to become canon, even though the show itself never promised anything. People start treating the ship like it’s already confirmed or its definitely going to happen, and that can lead others (especially new or casual viewers) to believe the show has real queer representation when it actually doesn’t.
So people will start watching the show but they get disappointed when the show doesn't have the ship become canon, when it never promised anything

OMGGG SHUT UPPP cuz that's so awesomeeee i was so embarrassed actually, but im so gladd u like greek mythology too!! I actually bought some of apollo trials too!! Im still reading it, I've reached the 3rd book, i haven't tried Percy Jackson yet cuz I didn't know where to start exactly, books or movies or comics. And im a BIG epic fan!! Since day one! And apollo is what mainly got me into real greek mythology cuz he was just so charming to me and had such a beautiful interesting stories and powers that i couldn't get enough!! (Nd also so attractive ngl) And it reached to a point where i watched a whole buried ballet play called apollo on yt which was very great tbh the melodies r beautiful! And i hyperfixated so hard on apollo AND Dionysus!! Oh and Hermes too! He's such a funny guy, and Artemis is very underrated!!
I must admit I've already technically read part of the first book because I've been on a kick of those 'characters reading the books' fanfictions lately, and there's one where they don't cut out massive chunks of the canon material to avoid copyright issues.
I've heard a lot of mixed things on it, but most of that was from the subreddit, where it seems liking the show or any books other than the first series is illegal lmao.
Speaking of the first series, I highly recommend starting with the books! I haven't read the comics nor watched the show. I watched part of the first movie but didn't really like it.
Out of the Gods, Apollo, Artemis and Hermes are probably my favourites. Dionysus is pretty fun as well, and I also enjoy the few stories I've managed to find about Hades (Bless you Overly Sarcastic Productions, you fueled my mythology obsession for ages)
I'm hoping one day to be able to travel to Greece and/or Rome and plan to visit some temples (or what remains of them at least) if I ever manage it!

Haha thanks! I love Greek mythology as well (well, mainly Percy Jackson version but I do love the actual stuff as well!). Ironically, despite Apollo also being one of my favourite Gods, he didn't inspire my username. I actually got it from a random username generator when I was deep in my Homestuck phase lmao.
Funny you brought Apollo up though considering I brought all of the Trials of Apollo (plus The Sun and The Star) a few hours ago lmao!
