He stopped what he was doing and turned to look at her with a raised brow. Little Byrde was a little brat sometimes. But he couldnโt help the corner of his mouth raise. He enjoyed the company of feisty personalities, despite what people might infer when looking at him studiously going over the soil strata to date an artifact in complete silence, glaring at anyone that dared interrupt him.ย
โAs old as me - youโll get here someday if you arenโt an idiot running into danger at the first chance you get,โ He chided, tapping his charcoal against the edge of his notebook. He knew he sounded gruff, but he meant it. He didnโt want her getting hurt.ย โAnd no, Iโm not going in. Iโll just wait for you to clear it all out - and probably destroy anything of note - and then I can work in peace.โ He smiled ruefully down at Zephrine, and then shook his head.ย โYou be careful in there, alright?โย
It was interesting to see the kinds of things that Holden discovered, even if she didnโt always understand them completely, and even if she didnโt always show interest in them. She had a certain curiosity about the history of the world, perhaps seeking answers to what had become of it now. Was it always this dark and menacing and they just didnโt know it? There were too many questions, too many possibilities for her to comprehend -- which is why she could never fathom doing what he does. It would just cause her frustration knowing that some things would forever remain a mystery.ย
โIโm no idiot,โ She snapped back, a little defensively, although she knew that he was just trying to look out for her. He often did, even when she felt it was unnecessary.ย โI donโt always go running into danger. Only when it is needed, when it is necessary. I have to protect those who cannot protect themselves.โ She repeated the oath to herself many times throughout her life, beginning when she left home. It was often what tethered herself to the light when she felt the darkness inside of her trying to rear itโs ugly head. Her expression softened into a lazy grin as she reached out to lightly punch his shoulder.ย โAww, youโre worried about me, old man? Iโll be fine. I mean, it canโt be that bad... right?โ Her voice quivered in the slightest, despite her willing it to stay firm.ย Who was she trying to convince -- him or herself?ย ย

โdear divinesโฆโ zoya mutters, looking up at the large beast, the dragon, above them. THAT was something she didnโt remember being there. she shakes her head. thereโs no way sheโs fighting that. turning to the horde instead, zoya pulls out her sword for the second time that week, more than she had in her life โ other than training.ย โwe have to be greatly outnumbered her. what kind of magic can do this?โ she begins slashing at whatever is in her way. โi admit, iโm wishing iโd fully fed before going to the castle now.โ
as zephrine looks upon the impending doom that is laid out in front of them, she remembers her training from years ago. there were never this many ravenous targets, but perhaps if she just imagined them as only simple animals, it would be less terrifying. sheโs quick to join zoyaโs side as soon as she sees her within the crowd, pulling arrows from her quiver just as fast as she was shooting them.ย โthis is insane -- nothing like when we were kids.โ she decides to sling her bow across her shoulders, not wanting to waste her limited supply of arrows. besides, there was no way she could keep up with the horde. she instead unsheathes her dagger, burying it into the nearest creature.ย โyouโre seriously thinking about food right now?!โ

being a bit dumbstruck as monsters of all kinds charged toward them, his instincts of self preservation got the best of him as he let his comrades push forward to take on the horde. his hand gripped tightly around his sword, he was ready to fight -- when he absolutely had to. he looked around the room as it erupted with chaos, bodies blurring, unable to discern battle cries from screams of abject horror. he caught a dormant figure out of the corner of his eye, a man in the corner, cowering away from the rest of the party. he crossed the room to get to him, cutting down a couple of blood fiends who dared to obstruct his path.
โwhatโre you doing over here?โ he yells over the noise, noticing he didnโt even have a weapon. who charges into battle so foolishly unprepared?ย โare you trying to get yourself killed?โ he quickly reached for a sword from a fallen member of their party, wrestling it out of their bloodied grip and tossing it to him.ย
Holden was admiring the curtain walls to the outer bailey with heavy fortified towers of the castle, trying to date when the first stones might had been laid. Quite some centuries ago, but it had obviously been updated and reinforced over battles and changes in architectural tastes. He had been starting to etch down some lines with estimated measurements in his palm sized notebook, when he heard her walk up to him.
โFancy seeing you here,โ He said casting a quick glance her way, not surprised at the appearance of Zephrine, geared up and ready to head inside with the rest of the party.ย โLittle Byrde going to fly into the monsterโs nest, mm?โ
Zephrine had found herself perched up on a hill, overlooking the entire party, watching as everyone readied themselves to enter the castle. There was no telling what to expect when they breeched the doors, but whatever was in there, it couldnโt possibly be good. She could feel the darkness that seemed to radiate from the tower, sending a touch of fear through her, yet pulling her in at the same time. Perhaps it was her new found powers that made her feel some kind of connection with whatever was happening inside the walls.ย
She spotted Holden from a distance out of the corner of her eye, separate from everyone else, which didnโt come as much of a surprise. Soon enough, after letting her thoughts wander too much about whatโs to come, she made her way over to the man.ย โSomeoneโs got to make sure we all make it out alive.โ The statement was made with full confidence, despite feeling more frightened than she had in a long time.ย โArenโt you going in? I thought you, of all people, would be dying to get your hands on whateverโs in there. That castle looks as old as you.โย

STAND UP STRAIGHT. donโt let them see you falter -- do not show even a shred of weakness , no traces of fear. donโt smile, either. no one needs to know that you care.ย
zephrine was born into a very strict household, both of her parents high ranking military officers. being the youngest of three, there was a lot of pressure to follow in her siblings footsteps, who had of course followed in their parentsโ. it was expected that she would join as soon as she was of age, but zeph was never like the rest of her family. she didnโt share the same sense of duty that seemed to be instilled in her siblings. she dreamed of leaving walech & becoming her own person, separate from the guilt bestowed on her by parents every day that passed that she did not join them.ย
AS IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE.ย
despite having no interest in joining the military, she was still trained to be a warrior from a young age. like her older siblings, her parentโs let her choose a weapon to master. being a little more timid than the rest, she immediately chose a bow and arrow. they warned her that it would take practice and determination to master such a precise weapon, but their doubt only solidified her choice. anything that made her just that much more different than them. by the time she was twelve years old, she could hit her mark without fail, every time. her training gained momentum as she got older, her parents challenging her more and more every day. they began setting her up with moving targets, starting with animals. large and slow to start -- it didnโt take long before she had advanced to small, flying creatures like birds and bats.ย
after years of excelling at this type of training, she was getting too comfortable. it was all... too safe. she needed to be tested in order to prove that she would one day triumph above her peers. her parents were determined to change her mind, whether they had to force her into their ranks or not. they wouldnโt stand to let their reputation be broken, not now, not ever.ย
this will show her.ย ย
HIT YOUR MARK OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCES.ย
zephrine was eighteen when her parents decided that she needed something that would really challenge her. sheโd been too used to killing animals, creatures who posed no threat. they used their standing in the military to get ahold of some thieves and traitors who had been captured by their platoon, rotting away in a jail cell just begging to be used for just this. they didnโt tell her what her targets would be, just that it would be life or death. her life or theirs. shoot them or die.ย
she wasnโt in any position to question their instructions ; she trusted her parents. she couldnโt have imagined they would really put her in harmโs way, not without some kind of back up plan. they were there to protect her, as always, if anything went wrong.... right?ย
the training grounds had been enclosed by a tall fence, and inside were plenty of large obstacles to hide behind, as well as perches for her to be able shoot from above. they sent her in first, her head spinning with possible scenarios and outcomes, readying herself for the exercise ahead. the young girl had no idea what was coming. what she thought would just be a few predatory animals, like wolves, perhaps even a bear -- turned out to be living, breathing human... targets?
confusion clouded her thoughts with doubt as she lowered her weapon and watched as they scattered around the arena. they each held a different weapon in their clutches ; one with a spear, one with an axe, and one with a---she ducked as an arrow came flying her way all of the sudden, barely missing her head. she felt as if her heart was about to beat right out of her chest as fear coursed through her veins for the first time in a LONG time.ย
โ FOCUS, ZEPHRINE. THIS IS HOW IT IS OUT IN THE WORLD YOUโRE SO EAGER TO SEE. KILL OR BE KILLED!ย โย
her fatherโs voice bellowed from the shadows, hidden in the distance, somewhere she couldnโt see. his presence gave her no sense of peace, especially after what heโd just said. his words echoed in her head over and over: kill or be killed. she took a deep, stabling breath as she pushed all of her fear down, something sheโd been taught to do her whole life. sheโd never been put into a situation so seemingly dire, but she had to compartmentalize. theyโre just targets. youโve never missed your mark before, youโre not going to start now.
her eyes quickly surveyed the area below her as she ran across the platform she was on, her eyes catching a glint of light reflecting off of someoneโs blade. without a second thought, and in one fluid motion, she pulls an arrow from her quiver and lines up the shot, releasing it a split second later. she doesnโt look to see if she hit her mark -- she already knew that she did. she rolled behind a large cart that had been placed in the arena for cover, a place to catch her breath and take in her surroundings. one down -- two to go.ย
what she didnโt know -- what she couldnโt have known -- was that every time she hit her target, a new one was released into the arena. it didnโt take her long to figure out, of course, as one enemy turned back into two, and two to three, over and over again. just when she thought sheโd gotten them all, more came out of nowhere. after twelve of them, she was exhausted ; partly from the energy it took to draw her bow, partly from the constant fear that someone was going to be quicker than her, that her life would be over before it began. she no longer believed that her parents cared whether she made it out alive.ย
kill or be killed. kill or be killed. kill or be killed.ย
she drove an arrow through what she hoped to be the last target, sheโd lost count at that point, collapsing to her knees as their body dropped with a loud thud. she hadnโt come out unscathed, her body littered with slashes from swords and deep penetrating wounds from stray arrows. her bloodied body had had enough, but despite her exhaustion, she kept her guard up. there was no telling if she was finished. her parents were known to be ruthless commanders. she knew that, but she never imagined that theyโd use their tactics against her.
DONโT SHOOT !ย
just when she thought it was finally over, she heard footsteps approaching rapidly. aha -- they were trying to catch her off guard !ย they were moving quickly, but she was quicker. she pulled her last arrow from her quiver, knowing she would have to be precise if she wanted to live. she turned to make the shot, all without realizing that the person coming at her was indeed not a target. she heard loud voices around her--donโt shoot! donโt shoot!--, but it was too late. the arrow was plunged straight into her older sisterโs chest. NEVER MISS YOUR MARK.
the look of horror on her face was soon mirrored by zephrine as soon as she realized what sheโd done. she caught her before she hit the ground, tears already streaming down her face. all she could do was apologize profusely, over and over, as they were the only words that would come out. what happened after that was a blur -- she knew that her parents had pulled her off of her sisterโs body, despite trying to cling to her for dear life. she remembered crying until there were no tears left, falling asleep from exhaustion only to wake up and start all over.
WHAT DID I DO? WHAT DID I DO?ย
zephrine spent an entire year after that refusing to pick up her bow, feeling completely and utterly defeated. how could she have done such a thing? the overwhelming guilt broke something inside of her, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldnโt mend the pieces. her parents took full responsibility, knowing that they had pushed her too far & they shouldnโt have let their other daughter enter the arena.ย โit was irresponsible of us to let this happen.โ she didnโt care -- it was her hands, her arrow, that lead her sister to her dying breath.ย
----ย
( ok switching it up to bullet points now thank u for making it this far my dudes )ย
she left home about a year and half after the incident, not being able to be around her family anymore.
she vowed to never use her bow unless she was protecting herself or someone that she cared about / who needed her help.ย
throwing herself into the world after little to no experience was a little scary, and often difficult as she struggled to stay fed and rested. she hunted her own food when she could, also trading furs and meat for ale and a warm place to sleep along the way. she adapted to life on her own fairly quickly, preferring the freedom and the lack of pressure.ย
she lived like this, as a vagabond of sorts, for a few years. her heart softened as she met people who were actually good, instead of ones who claimed to be something they were not (her parents)
she loved visiting and trading with merchants at the marketplace, telling them of her journeys and in turn listening to their troubles and experiences.ย
after saving someone from some rogue bandits on the road one day, they offered to pay her to escort them on the rest of their journey. she happily obliged, earning a decent amount of coin. their destination was arella, where her companion spread the word of how her bravery made it possible for her to complete her journey. this is how she became a guard for hire, loving the opportunity to keep people safe.ย
it was easy for a while, escorting simple traders from one town to the next, fending off simple bandits. a lot of the time, not even having to take out her bow. of course, as her reputation grew, her jobs scaled higher. looking out for nobles who were in real danger, ones with prices on their heads simply for being related to someone in power. she took the jobs in stride, even when it became dangerous for her, too.ย
sheโs only failed a select few of her clients, mostly when they undersell the amount of danger theyโre really in. she always tells people up front that if she doesnโt have all of the information, she canโt properly protect them. she has to know what she is to protect them from, or else she cannot be prepared. despite it usually being the fault of the client, she takes the losses personally.ย
CURRENTLY ...ย
she still works as a guard for hire, quite proficient at it now, although she does struggle because of the what the doom did to her.ย
being an escura, it takes everything in her not to let the dark thoughts that intrude inside her mind get the better of her. if she can help it, she does not use her magic. sometimes it comes without warning, especially when she gets angry or upset. she uses it to her advantage against STRONG enemies, like that of magical nature.ย
sheโs VERY against the doom, for obvious reasons. sheโs tired of fighting within herself, especially because sheโs had this battle with darkness too many times before. it wouldโve been easy for her to give into it when she was younger, but she has hardened herself in order to remain strong against it.ย
she tries to use her magic for good, despite it going against her newfound instincts & the nature of the magic she uses.ย
rumors of necromancy has had her thoughts racing about her sister, contemplating whether she even wants to go down that road. she would love to see her again, to tell her sheโs sorry, to have more time with her. she is curious about it, but without someone encouraging to try it, she likely wonโt do it herself (hint, hint)ย
pretty serious most of the time, almost always has her guard up. the only time sheโs ever relaxed is when sheโs around people that she trusts & knows that sheโs not in any immediate danger. keeps her bow close at all times just in case tho.ย
will defend ANYONE that she sees is in trouble / danger, esp if they are defenseless. she will NOT put up with any kind of shit.ย
drinks ale when thereโs something to celebrate, but usually doesnโt ever get drunk. hates the feeling of not being in control.ย
pretty easy to get along with, so long as youโre not a complete piece of garbage (i.e. icarius alkdjgAG)ย
due to her parents behavior when she was younger, she has a bit of a problem with authority. thinks soldiers in the military are basically just brainwashed goons with superiority complexesย
DOES NOT TRUST EASILYย
but when she does trust you, she is SO loyal and will always have ur backย
kind of want her to have a pet wolf ??? is that weird. a hunting buddy. extra protection. warm cuddles in winter. a cute archery themed name like quiver ????ย
OKAY BEFORE THIS GETS ANY LONGER IM GONNA END IT. iโm sorry this got so ungodly long & if u made it all the way thru .. bless u . i love u. COME PLOT W ME < 3ย
(but wait thereโs more) SHORT LIST of possible connectionsย
CLIENTS !! people who have hired her to guard them at one time or another, whether it be recent or in the past
someone who is/was in the military and know her folks and maybe think sheโs wack 4 leaving bc they donโt know the whole story !ย
a RIDE OR DIE who she met when she left home & knows everything about her & what happened . :)ย
her OLDER BROTHER ... who iโll probs put a wanted connection up for but if any of yโall want it . come @ meย
HER PARENTS ... lmao same thing as above ^^^ย
an experienced escura friend who helps her with her powers n sheeeitย
A BAD INFLUENCE DOOMED PERSON who leads her astray ~ gets her more into dark magic maybe ~
antigoneโs mind wandered after foraging in the forest with talon. the memory of his lips on hersโฆ it nearly made her lose her grip on her basket of celandine. she hoped she wouldnโt seem too flustered around the rest of the hunting party. if anything, it took her mind off of the attack at the village and lifted her spirits. she hummed as she went to set her basket on the table, but lost her grip entirely this time. the celandine spilled over the hard-packed dirt.
โicarius?โ
after emptying two jugs of ale, icarius thought his head might spin right off his shoulders. his vision had not begun to blur, not yet, but that mightโve changed if he attempted to get on his feet. his sketchbook was tucked safely away in his things, finished with it for the night, yet his eyes kept wandering back to it, making sure it was still there. he couldnโt tell if it was the ale making him paranoid or the events of the previous couple of nights.ย
barely able to focus on one thing for very long, he averted his attention upwards when he heard his name. heโd run into so many familiar faces already, who else could have possibly found him? it took him a moment to recognize her, as the last time that heโd laid eyes on her she was just a little kid. he could barely believe that she was the same person heโd watch growing up at the farm next to his. he scrambled to his feet so that he could help her pick up her overturned basket, wobbling a little before catching his balance.ย
โby the gods, is that really you, antigone?โ he asked in disbelief, blinking a few times just to be sure that he was seeing her correctly.ย โyou sure have gotten... taller.โย
she had never felt anger for him, not once, though mira had said that was simply because she was too sweet and all of her rage was hidden under a pile of sugar.ย though in this moment, exhausted and covered in the blood of those blood sucking monsters, she canโt even muster a smile to brighten her features - instead her arms cross tightly over her chest as she eyes him.ย he hadnโt changed over the years, still the same lookโฆthe look she had fallen so head over heels for all those years ago, the look that took over anaโs features.
โwhat am i doing here? well, someone has to capture the great adventure to the castle through pictures for the next generations.โ like our daughter.ย though she bites her tongue at the last thought, shuffling awkwardly where she stands.ย โwhy are you here?โ
he watches her carefully, taking her in -- he hadnโt seen her since their daughter was only a week old. she looked as enchanting as ever, despite the obvious weariness, reminding him why he had kept coming back to her over and over again. he couldnโt decide if the ache in his chest was because he missed her, or if it was the dread of the conversation to come. he thought of his -- their -- daughter from time to time, wondering what she was like, if she had his hair or his eyes, or the same impetuous curiosity he held as a child. he wanted so badly to ask, and maybe he would, if she gave him the chance.ย
โcome, why donโt you sit? you look like you could use the rest.โ he motions next to him, although unsure if she would even take the offer. he couldnโt imagine that she was very happy with him.ย โperhaps i am here for the same reasons. besides, you know me -- my own selfish curiosity would never allow me to miss this.โย

Yara almost laughed out loud at that, her face splitting into a smirk.ย โI do happen to own one of the finest auction houses in Ezia. I know exquisite work when I see it.โ She pointedly looked his body up and down at that, unable to resist the temptation. She glanced back up at the castle before them. โAnd Iโm not sure I deserve such harsh criticism. If I remember correctly, you were the one who stormed out of my office after reading the contract.โ
Yara sat down beside him on the log, and spread out her finely woven skirts, and leaned on one hand to look back at his sketch.ย โI was always telling Ya- Bellamy that I was impressed by your fiery attitude when it came down to what you thought was the right thing to do. No more painting nobles and kings, no more fine dining in the midst of stuffy aristocrats blah, blah, blah.โย
Yara paused, tapping a bejeweled ring on her hand in contemplation - it hurt her that his reaction was exactly what she had thought it would be. She remembered the few weeks they had worked together before he had ripped up the contract in Yaraโs face. She had been working hard on pricing his items fairly for auction - quizzing him on his methods, training, and materials. They had laughed late into the night. โI would have let you paint whatever you desired, and brought you a good profitโฆ. Pity you thought I was taking away your freedom.โ She murmured, her smile fading.
โOh, do you? I must have forgotten, perhaps even blocked it out of my memory.โ He teased, his brow arching upwards as she looked him up and down. That wasnโt unfamiliar to him, not with other women -- most other women -- but Yara hadnโt exactly shown interest in him before. Time had passed since heโd last seen her, but he couldnโt shake the feeling that something was different. He scoffed, rolling his eyes at the dramatic recollection.ย โI wouldnโt say that I stormed out... just merely walked.. with purpose. You and I both know that that contract was rubbish. No sense in denying it now.โย
He etched a few more lines on the pad in front of him as he listened to her, turning his head toward her when her speech scrambled momentarily. That was odd -- it almost sounded as if she meant to say her own name. He remembered Bellamy fondly, spending many a night together, unlike his memories of Yara.ย โAh, yes -- where is she now? Still working for you, or has she come to her senses?โ His eyes narrowed suspiciously as she praised him for something that he had been under the impression that she disagreed with before, but perhaps he had just been making assumptions.ย โYour disdain toward me definitely made me think otherwise. You acted like one of those stuffy aristocrats I was trying so desperately to get away from.โย
Something about her seemed so familiar, but there was no way that he could have felt this way toward Yara. They didnโt spend enough time together to feel that way. Their conversation felt easy now, unlike before, when it was like pulling teeth. Like it was with-- Bellamy. Curious. He shook his head, setting his drawing aside as he turned his full attention to the woman next to him.ย โPity you didnโt share this sentiment the last time we met. Tell me, Yara, whatโs changed?โย
Yara kept seeing glances of the man throughout the day between the rush of people, and crowd of trees, but she never got close enough to confirm her suspicions. That was, until they were setting up the camps around the base of the castle walls, and she had noticed him pull out a sketchbook to try and capture the ornateย machicolations on the flanking tower in charcoal. She wanted to race towards him, to greet him with a smile, but she didnโt have Bellamyโs face. She remembered how he had scorned Yara, had laughed in her face - and those feelings that Yara had felt of enmity and indignation rose in her throat. She pushed them aside, and approached the man, picking up her skirts to avoid the muddied ground.ย
โIcarius Vynoran,โ Yara said as she stood behind him, peering over his shoulder to look at his sketch.ย โItโs been a while, and I see youโve been keeping up your fine work.โ
Unlike most, Icarius often found solace within bustling crowds of people, even amidst the chaos that had unfolded the last few days. There he sat, as everyone tended to their wounds and set up campfires, sketching away, not a care for anything else in the world. Every time he drew or painted, he lost himself in his work, the rest of his surroundings melting away. He would only glance away to gather more details from his subject, every crack in the stone, every growth of moss or vine that crawled itโs way around the tower.ย
His attention was pulled by the utter of his own name, surprised when he craned his neck upwards and saw her. His eyes narrowed at the familiar figure, something in how she carried herself seeming off, but he couldnโt quite place it. Not that he paid much attention to her in the miniscule interactions heโd chosen to have with her before, but it was more of a feeling than an observation.ย
โWhat would you know about fine work?โ He scoffed, returning his gaze back to his artwork. He didnโt much like talking to her before, and from his understanding, the feeling had been mutual.ย โHere to tell me that youโve finally pulled that branch out of your arse and then beg to work with me? I would truly love to see that.โ
she had heard chatter of the other artistโs name around the camp, women and men alike complimenting his looks and his charm as francys listened in selfishly. the last she had seen him was a week after ana was born, she thought he would stay now that they had a child and how her heart warmed at seeing the pair together, yet after that day she heard nothing of him or his journey. she was left to wonder and cry until her sister explained to her what he had done, how he had betrayedย her naive trustย -ย though mira seemed to keep the fact that she had told him to never return a secret.ย
it was late in the camp, the moon high in the clouded sky as the jolly songs of drunken travellers brightens the campโs atmosphere. bare feet step softly through the grass around the edge of the camp, her outfit still stained with blood and dirt of the battle, before her gaze falls on the silent artist a tent lengths away from her.
โicarius.โ
it had been far too long since he had gotten a good nightโs sleep, finding himself restless after all of the violent chaos. with a small fire burning next to him, he found himself sketching out the flames, how they danced under the moon. he was planning his next painting, inspired by the warmth but also the volatility. his eyes often wandered to the campsites around him, staying sharp, keeping his guard up at all times. he trusted no one but himself, which wasnโt anything new, but it was different here. people were desperate, willing to do anything to get to what they wanted.ย
he took a swig of his ale, now half empty, wondering who he should talk his way into giving him more when he ran out. always thinking ahead -- well, almost always. the last thing he expected was to hear his name in her mouth, not here. his eyes snapped to where the voice called from, reluctantly meeting hers. heโd spent a good amount of time avoiding her and all of the responsibilities and pressures that came with seeing her again. he would likely blame her sister if confronted about why heโd not been around, when in reality it was a relief when sheโd told him to never return.

it wasnโt until he traveled to arella that he found a passion for the arts. he always loved seeing beautiful places, and heโd always wished he could somehow encapsulate them forever. painting allowed him to do just that. it took a lot of practice, but after a while he excelled at painting just about anything. and since he didnโt like sitting still for long periods of time, he got pretty fast at it too.
ย word travelled across the kingdoms and soon he had many offers. it suited him perfectly, being able to venture out to different places, taking in all of the different culture and people. oh, the people. growing up with little to no interaction with people, it was always a kind of relief to be surrounded by so many now. especially the pretty ones.ย
he often found someone to lay with in each city he visited, always charming his way into someoneโs bed, both women and men alike. he didnโt much have a preference, but he had to admit it was easier to find women as it was more โsocially acceptableโ. he doesnโt give a shit, but there are many men who would rather keep it secret.ย
the more paintings he finished, the greater his reputation became and he was able to charge more and more for his services. he rarely had time to paint the things he truly desired, but the temptation of riches got the better of the young man.ย
after a few years, he grew bored of jumping from city to city just to paint for rotten nobles who never truly appreciated his art. he hated having to put up a polite facade whenever around them when all he wanted to do was tell them how pathetic he thought their lives must be, stuck in such a repetitive & controlled environment. the thought of being any kind of royalty sent shivers down his spine. he knew he would hate it, as he was starting to hate just working with/for them.
upon returning to arella to gather his bearings and pick up some art supplies for personal use, he met a quite enchanting woman named francys at a shop heโd wandered into. they bonded over a shared interest in painting, and as he often did, he charmed his way into her bed. then, as always, he would leave just as abruptly as he would arrive. something about her always had him coming back, though, every time he returned to arella. was it her warm bed or something more ? --- eh, likely just the bed.ย
currently . . .ย
he still travels frequently, craving adventure & never able to sit still, despite having a daughter in arella that he barely knows. he likes to blame francysโ sister for banishing him, when in reality he just doesnโt want the responsibility of being a father.ย
spoiler alert he is 100% a shitheadย
he still paints occasionally but never for money. instead he hustles, placing bets that are rigged to his advantage, or convincing people to buy things from him at a higher value than theyโre worth. heโs got a silver tongue so itโs hard to dispute the things he says, especially when you donโt know him.ย
will sleep with ANYONE and everyone ,,, hit it & quit it type of mansย
a certified MESS like seriouslyย
someone pls kick his ass . im beggingย
although he DOES ... know how to fight since heโs travelled so much ,, learned how to defend himself after getting his shit absolutely ROCKED one time (lots of times lbr) but he never starts fights for no reason ... unless heโs drunk then thereโs no telling wtf heโs gonna do .ย
very indifferent to this whole doom thing since it didnโt alter him in any way, bc heโs a selfish prick so like ??? what ?? this horrible thing happened but it didnโt effect me in any way .. oh well ! doesnโt concern me ! (or so he thinks)ย
