✨I Give Up ✨

You spent the entire week looking forward to this date, i mean, everything seemed to be going well. they were a friend you had been crushing on for ages. when you finally had the courage to confess, you were ecstatic to find out they felt the same way.

The two of you continued to talk and they officially asked you out. you spent the whole week getting ready, new dress, shoes and perfume. everything was going well...

or least, thats what you thought..

Miguel had been distant the entire week but you didn't register it while you were wrapped up in your fairy tale fantasy. he left earlier that night to grab some groceries and you stayed back to wait for your date.

so you waited..

and waited...

checked your phone again..

waited more..

and more..

and more..

Every time you checked the time, you felt like shards of glass started to pierce your heart. slowly, because you didn't want to believe they'd ghost you- why would they? everything was going well, maybes you're overreacting.

Your perfume started to feel less sweet and more tantalizing as the night dragged on. at some point, you started counting seconds. you shot a couple texts, all came back as read, no reply.

Half an hour later Miguel came back. he was surprised to see you were still there but you didn't look over.

Miguel sensed the mood and bit his lip before responding "what happened?.." he said as he sorted the groceries on the kitchen counter

"No idea.." you responded in defeat. your phone on the table face down, you were tempted to check again but you knew nothing changed. you're notifications were on, you would've heard if a message came in. "...Miguel"

"Yeah..?" he looked up feeling his gut twist at the tone

"I dont think they're coming.." your voice nearly broke, you felt your throat start to swell but swallowed thickly in a attempt to suppress.

Miguel grit his teeth, gripping the cans in his hands with more force then necessary. he was seething with anger over the whole situation.

Truth is, he himself had feelings for you. seeing you gush over this guy nearly killed him. but he kept to himself, watching as you had that cute smile on your face the whole week. when he saw you in that dress, he thought you were the most beautiful sight he ever laid eyes on. he left that night expecting to not see you till midnight or even the next morning..

but this... this was way worse. if jealousy didn't get him, then your crushed expression might. Miguel swiftly put the perishables away and practically ran to his room.

You perk up slightly at the noise, unshed tears slightly escaping as you blink. were it not for the fact you invested in waterproof mascara beforehand, your tears would look like ink was paint brushed along your cheeks.

You hear shuffling coming from his closet and after a minute miguel comes out in a leather jacket with a white shirt and black pants with black dress shoes. 'he cleans up fast..' you think to yourself eyeing him up and down through glazed vision.

"C'mon." He said a little rougher then intended

"What-"

"if you-" he took a deep breath before continuing "If you still feel going out.. I'll take you wherever you want.." he averted his eyes, because if he looked at you directly, maybe he'd spill everything he'd been thinking up till that moment.

you remained silent.

"...I dont want you to waste your night. not after getting excited and dressed up.."

You felt the tension in your shoulders loosen as he continued.

"You can cry about it later, but tonight at least.. let me do what he couldn't."

You pause. then, after a minute, you wipe away a couple tear streaks on your face before getting up and grabbing your bag. you smile, genuinely, maybe the night wasn't completely ruined afterall.

He holds out his hand and you take it.
