Just got back from the protest against police brutality and don't let anyone tell you that the situation is so much better in Europe. I'm in France and the police :

- trapped the protesters (we were at least 20 000 people) in the square, refusing to let us march from there to our destination as it was initially planned. They literally put high fences all around us to trap us.

- then they teargassed us for no reason at all

- after 3 and a half hours of us protesting and not being able to move forward, they started to make very loud explosions-like noises (I couldn't see what it was) every 2 minutes which was terrifying. It was to fuck with us psychologically because after a while of feeling like we were being bombed, a lot of people including us started leaving

- as my friends and I managed to leave the square, we saw at least 30 vans full of armed policemen and 2 tanks drive toward the square

- according to the people I know who stayed at the protest, the police kept teargassing them, and even charged at them. At the same time, the police tweets "we ask the protestor to stay calm and leave". How can people stay calm when they're being teargassed and charged at by armed police?
