I am a fashion student growing my body of designs. I cut and sew each piece myself in Cleveland and Kent Ohio. My designs aim to help people finding yourself through expressing the multiplicity of cultures and mutually advancing from them and not exploiting different cultures through fashion. Creating a space for self expression of emotions or feelings that are stigmatized yet prevalent in our society.

Andre Claudio from sourcing Journal came to give us a little presentation on his position working for the sourcing journal. He was able to attain this job after graduation through a connection he had there. He shared with us a bit of his day to day schedule writing for the sourcing journal. It was cool to see someone around my age that also attended my same college being successful in the field of their choice.

We learned how Delta Galil own several different brands mainly focusing in the intimates category. Splendid works with many different factories and mills across the world mainly in Asia. They spoke to us a little bit about their sustainability efforts such as using Tencel fabric but did not explain to us any of the transparency in their supply chain.

They work with different factories and mills to incorporate the ideas of reusing textile waste in different ways. They also try to work with and convince brands to work with them and use their techniques to redeuse and reuse textile waste. Some of the process includes separating fibers from mixed fiber fabric to create new spun yarn to be used in the future.

We learned how they work with many different companies and businesses as well as designers to grade patterns. I thought this was quite interesting because I had never heard of pattern grading even though it is something I have done before. I did not know before that it is an entire business and many companies use this service. I am fortunate to learn pattern making skills as a designer but will also be able to learn about grading patterns now that I know how big of a process it actually is.

It's great how none of the displays were stale and they all were bale to still captivate someone walking by. The purpose of the displays is to bring in new customers and attract the eyes of customers. The displays in the stores show the trends in the market and can also display new trends being invented into the current market.

The woman behind the business Anna Sophia, explained how she works with several different buyers to retail her jewelry. She has her factory in Thailand and sources her different stones and silver in Thailand as well. Anna Sophia also offered the class some wisdom about life explaining her background in computer science to how she followed her passion in jewelry making.

The visit and presentation was vey inspiring to me. I liked their process of creating the presentation and doing research for it as well, they explained how they travel to different parts of the world and use their research and inspiration to sell the forecasting and inspiration in their presentations. They said how in their team they have people from all different study backgrounds and it created for new perspective on their work. This experience opened my eyes to me possibly working in this type of a job in the future. I study design but I felt as their process was very similar to the conceptualizing stage of the design process which is my favorite parts of design.

We got a tour of the entire studio and every machine they had available. We saw all sorts of different machines that could embroider all types of images, colors and shapes. Some machines were bigger then others and could do larger scale embroidery work and some were smaller and could embroider smaller things like words or phrases. They do large scale production and have worked for brands like DKNY and do not take on personal projects.

The museum had outfits and props on display from historic and newer broadway shows as well as they had recreated the sets from shows. It was very cool to see the history of some of the shows and how they came to be as well as getting to see some of the behind the scenes of how the show is produced. I think all of the costuming and set design is the most interesting part of the show itself. I am inspired to go watch a broadway show now and we were informed on how to get a cheaper ticket for the show.

This was a very cool experience to be able to see a designer luxury brand studio and store. I wish I could have learned a little bit more about the creative process they go through in order to make the looks.

Overall the experience was very interesting and inspiring. I love seeing businesses like these and inspires me to own my own one day.

The blue and white sequin dress was my favorite because of the detail of the sequins on the dress pattern. The pattern is borrowed from Chinese ceramic art. During out time in the met we also saw many of Van Gough original pieces which is something iconic to be able to see. Class mates and I enjoyed the rooftop of the met with big sculptures as well as an incredible view of the city.

The next destination on our scavenger hunt was Brayant Park. We sat down at a table in the park, people watched and talked. There was a large field in the middle that was closed off unfortunately. Im guessing it was closed off for some sort of event later on. We started to make our way over the the library. Unfortunately we did not go inside but we admired the architecture of the building with the lions outside. Lastly we made it to the Big Button. I did not realize it was going to be a sewing button but I soon realized the point of the button and its locational reference. It was a great opportunity to see this different landmarks in my new home away from home.
