This study tour was probably my favorite one yet. This is a family owned business where they make fabric flowers. This use to be a big business in the garment district in New York but now there is only one left which is M&S Flowers. They have an entire studio where they cut, heat, mold and configure hundreds of thousands of different flowers every day.
The son who took over his fathers custom fabric flowers business, Chris was able to show us around his business and took us through the process of making a custom fabric flower. He showed us how they starch, cut, mold and layer the fabric flower. Chris explained to the class how they manufacture everything in New York City which is so uncommon these days but is what adds the novelty aspect of his business. On the walls they have pictures of many of the celebrities they have worked with to create custom fabric flower looks. We learned how they work with customers and designers as their clients.
Overall the experience was very interesting and inspiring. I love seeing businesses like these and inspires me to own my own one day.
