Fact about me, before attending Art School as my plan B, I was already training to take the test and enlist in the Navy. That was my plan A straight out of High school. My heart was so set on going and even invited the recruiter to talk to my family. Going to the military in most cases should be an honor, but many parents and loved ones warn their daughters about the harsh realities for many women in service. What happened to Vanessa is heart breaking and justice needs to happen for her and all those who have suffered with the pain of sexual abuse in service. I invite you to write, call, email, DM your senators, your leaders and demand change. This angel and many others need to be protected. 💜 Speaking out about RAPE is not easy at all. It leaves years of trauma in you and forces you to put walls up to protect your mind, spirit and soul. At times you relive the experience over and over again in your mind. It makes you feel broken, ashamed, embarrassed, faulted, unheard, and fearful that no one would even believe you or nothing would change. This is how you live your life everyday knowing that the hurt doesnt just go away. I stand with Vanessa and many other women who face this.
