Thereâs something thatâs been bugging me for a while now and I couldnât help but to make a post about thisâŠ.
Now as a HUGE assassins creed fan, (especially AC3 and Connor) I understand self ship, fanfiction, and making OCâs for our boy Connor. The game doesnât show any indication of a love interest or his future wife. It just ends his story there. But outside of the game, Iâve read that the templars made propaganda on his life saying that he married a blonde woman and she took the kids and left him all alone, which is stated to not be true. Canonically heâs married to a Native Woman and had three children and also stayed within her tribe (this is shown in the AC Reflections comic).
What Iâm trying to say isâŠwhy do fans whitewash his wife? All I see is Connor paired with white OCâs or colonial women. Thereâs not many stories where Connor meets his wife or a Native Woman. Fans would always pair him up with a white colonial woman despite having a Native wife in canon. Is it because many of the fans based their OCâs off their image? Or do they not know about the Reflections comic that showcases Connorâs life after AC3? Which is understandable but if not that, then why white wash his love story? Maybe Iâm too woke but I took notice of this recently and itâs now bugging me lol.
What are yâall opinions?
thereâs a big difference between whitewashing his wife and simply pairing him with an oc - two separate characters. the whole point of creating an oc and shipping them with a character is because itâs fun. itâs because itâs something this person enjoys. because itâs entirely made up.
i understand ops point of view, however, life is made to have a fun. i donât speak for native americans as iâm not one myself, but a native having relations with white people was not uncommon. (i mean look at ziio! she fell in love with haytham - HAYTHAM OF ALL PEOPLE.)
a lot of people in the assassins creed fandom pair up their ocs with characters who already have canonically wives; but the whole point in doing so is because its a free world.
i donât really understand this post, itâs like saying âwell, your oc isnât italian, thus you canât pair your oc up with ezio!â what sense does that make?
yes, connor canonically marries a native woman. would he fall in love with a white woman? i wouldnât think so given the damage and reputation, but would he instantly accuse all white people of bad when he has white people who reside on the homestead? who care for him as he does with them? when heâs half white himself?
iâve seen a lot A LOTTTT of media with connor and a native wife, itâs out there on tumblr, you just have to find it đââïž but saying that people cannot pair their white oc with connor doesnât sit right with me. fandoms are made for having a good time, as are ocs. i donât think it would sit right with creators if they poured a lot of energy into an oc, a lot of backstory, etc. to then change the skin color for a character.
love is love. regardless of gender, of color.
ofc no hate in response to op, i understand where they are coming from. i just think that this argument can go both ways. and to answer ops question * a lot of people donât know a comic exists. when the game ends, a lot of people kinda made up their own ending for connor unless your a die hard fan who actively sought out for the comic ending.
but even then, making up your own ending is also an option and making connor fall in love with who he likes is too!
i mean, look at the connor and haytham ship. thatâs fucked up.
* i hope this doesnât come across at hostile, i just wanted to put my point across and absolutely no hate at all.
Donât worry, I didnât see any hate coming from you at all! I totally get where youâre coming from which is why I also asked or stated in my post is it most likely that fans donât know about the reflections comic or they base their oc of their own image? Or itâs both! I honestly donât mind Connor being paired with a white oc , hell some of the best fics on ao3 have great original characters who are white. Sometimes I pair him up with Aveline!
But I also come across some stories that have a racist or ignorant undertone to them if you get what Iâm saying. And I guess thatâs why I made that post about the white washing of his wife. Other than that, I donât mind Connor being in an interracial relationship but sometimes the stories can get a bit offensive in a way. Even the ConHayth pairing is a bit weird too, especially when they infantilize Connor
