Eric and Dylan were raised in an environment where people simply didn't care. Eric wrote about his struggles with homicidal and suicidal thoughts in his diversion papers but nothing happened. Dylan was struggling to eat in the month before the massacre and had committed self harm. They were practically begging for help but nothing was done.

Eric, Dylan, and the people they killed were failed by a system that doesn't care about people until it's too late. They didn't care about Eric and Dylan until they put bullets in their heads. They didn't care until they murdered people. They didn't care until they had a tragedy to exploit.
