Be it then or now, Yoongi has never had many friends but he cherished the few ones he had dearly and was loyal to them. In this song for the first time, he talks about a past best friend of his who ended up becoming a criminal. He was his one and only friend. They had the same drive to thrive but he changed and so did Yoongi. This is the story of how he misses him even though he hates him too at this point. That friend offered Yoongi to do illegal things at some point but he refused and got mad because there was no way the guy he knew would have said that. He was no more able to save him even if he stood by his side during the whole time that friend was in the detention center. Taking a three hour trip each week to see him. It was too late. People come and people go. It was painful but his only friend became unrecognizable and thus they went different ways.

The lyrics are very personal but Yoongi still felt that the moments he shared with that friend were part of his past and even if the end was bad and the events that occurred were twisted, he was still his only friend back then. His only ally. His only source of joy. He regrets not stopping him and blames himself. Yet, he knows deep down that this is how things were meant to be.
