To me, it can mean a lot of things (got carried away, lol)...
In essence, it's a form of expanded intimacy or trust exercise. Sometimes I use it as a fantasy metaphor for sex, foreplay, aftercare, or just as a fantasy that gets me excited af. The usual idea of it in my mind is like, to your partner, you're not only desired, but needed so intensely that you're on the same standing as food or sustenance, something that fuels them, gives them pleasure and life energy (always safe, non-fatal, but that's the source behind it).
It's especially that primal lust fueled desire that strikes a chord with me. Being told things by your partner like, "I'm hungry for you" "I crave you" "you taste so good / you're so delicious" "you're my favorite treat/snack/meal" "I could just devour you" "you're all mine" "I want/ need you"... makes me fucking melt. Also I love the idea/trope of preds whose stomach growls when they think of their partner and vice versa. The key is physical hunger being equated with intimate desires/needs.
Otherwise I agree, how you wanna just be as vulnerable and close as possible with your partner.. Like sleeping with your head on your partner's chest and legs entwined.. or the tightest, most comforting and protective hug, where you can hear their heart pounding, feel the ebb and flow of breaths in their chest, and their rumbling stomach... just taking it to an extreme.
The idea of it has taken a ton of branches in my mind, like different kinks and turn ons (for ex: general oral and tummy fixations, licking, hunger, feeding, vampires)... there's just so much to love about it, with so many unique perspectives and possibilities.
