"Kaloma" ca.1914

Originally produced as an art print. The risqué image was popular and sold well. Also in 1914, the image appeared on the cover of “Kaloma, Valse Hesitante (Hesitation Waltz)” composed by Gire Goulineaux and published by the Cosmopolitan Music Publishing Company. Kaloma’s popularity continued as she became a pinup during WWI, and appeared after the war on post cards. After discrete airbrushing darkened her peignoir, Kaloma appeared in other popular advertising.

The unknown woman was thought to be Josie Earp, wife of Wyatt Earp, but it is believed to just be a tall tale. The identity of the woman and when and where it was taken are unknown. The 1914 date is the earliest copyright date on prints, but it was probably taken many years prior to 1914.
