Ill-Weaved Ambition

Anakin shook his head, schooling his expression. “No…no, nothing’s wrong at the Temple.” It had nothing to do with the Temple and everything to do with his real home. He hated the fact that Padmé kept taking on these dangerous assignments. There was nothing he could do to stop her, but he did wish she at least would agree to a fighter escort, or a Jedi going along with her, even if it wasn’t himself.

Anakin looked up from the model shuttle he was painting, turning around to look at Ahsoka. He was bored, which was why he was sitting in his quarters and painting. They had been given leave, and as much as he wanted to spend every hour of that leave with his wife, he knew it wasn’t possible because of how busy she was in the Senate—not to mention the fact that people would know about their relationship. But Ahsoka’s suggestion was a way for him to see Padmé, without the meeting appearing suspicious. He smiled, finishing the stripe he had painted on the wing and carefully packing up the paint materials. “That’s not a bad idea, Snips.”

Unfazed by Sabé’s question, Anakin shrugged. “If I wasn’t at least a little insane, it would never work. But a sandcrawler is almost indestructible, and it can’t be too hard to figure out how to drive one.  It’s faster than trying to walk back, that’s for sure.”
