Phantom Portraits: Master Post
Over the years, I’ve made portraits of some of my favorite Phantom performers. The Portrait series emulate the works of Robert Heindel which I first discovered in the “Complete Phantom of the Opera” book that were both minimalist and expressive at the same time.
1) Franc D’Ambrosio and Lisa Vroman 2) Franc D’Ambrosio 3) Brad Little 4) Anthony Crivello 5) Elizabeth Loyacano 6) Brianne Kelly Morgan 7) Hugh Panaro 8) Brent Barrett 9) Michael Lackey 10) Lisa Vroman
Updating with a couple of other portraits I’ve drawn since my original post:
11) Ali Ewoldt 12) Amy Manford

MUSICAL THEATER APPRECIATION, 2/∞
CHRISTINE DAAÈ
“I am a free agent, monsieur de Chagny; you have no right to control my actions and I will ask that you desist henceforth.” - Christine Daaè in Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera novel
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
Music of the night is such a good villain song that it lulls the audience into thinking it’s a love song. Because when you look at those lyrics… also very notable that it’s NOT a duet. He’s not allowing her to speak, he is making her listen. Vs aiaoy being two people pledging to each other. Ponr isn’t a love song either, it’s a fight. And the only time the phantom makes genuine declarations of love he’s singing aiaoy by himself. He doesn’t know what love is, but he wants what Christine and Raoul have. In the end, they go off singing it together, and he returns to music of the night.

‘Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour. Grasp it, sense it, tremulous and tender. Hearing is believing, music is deceiving; hard as lightening, soft as candlelight — dare you trust the music of the night?’

Somebody pinch me. I am beyond honored to announce that I will be playing Christine Daaé in the 40th Anniversary International Tour of The Phantom of the Opera. For the past two months, I've been quietly preparing for this journey, overflowing with so many emotions; it is hard to put into words just how much this opportunity means to me. Christine has been my dream role for as long as I can remember, and I cannot believe I get to share this timeless story with such a spectacular group of artists.
Phantom of the Opera was the show that introduced me to musical theater. I grew up watching @officialsierraboggess in the film adaptation and then got to experience @aliewoldt on Broadway. Watching each of their journeys was one of my biggest inspirations, and made me believe that I could pursue this career.

Every soap opera needs a diva, and "The OG" is no different. This is my initial character concept design for La Carlotta, the Spanish soprano and rival to Christine Daaé. I went for direct visual contrast between the two characters, opting for sharper and more severe angles and expressions for Carlotta - aiming for a "beautiful but cold and intimidating" aesthetic. Visual inspiration came from actresses such as Nicollette Sheridan, Ava Gardner, Sofia Loren, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Lawless, Hedy Lamarr, and Charlize Theron.
