we made a plan, all those months  ago

together we decided

we will do this ‘us’ thing until one of us wants to walk away

and it kind of worked

far better than i had thought it might

we rarely spoke of the deal

but we aren’t really together i would sometimes remind you

i don’t want to meet your favorite people you would say

and even so, you became my favorite part of every day

the moment i would come through your door and you would hug me tight

the phone calls on the nights i was too lazy to drive over

the movie dates where you would rest your hand on my thigh in a dark theater

the times you touched me you kissed me you whispered to me

we invented our own little world, population: 2

and if i am really fully honest, i loved it 

i finally felt comfortable, i felt like me, i felt known 

and thats when it shifted

i used to give you this look

and somehow, with one glance, you knew what it meant 

it always meant, ‘hey, kiss me’

and you always said ‘hey’ and you’d kiss me 

it was right after that last kiss that it hit me 

this couldn’t go on anymore
