i never really had a knack for keeping items that hold such high sentimental value. i guess i’m scared of the emotional attachment it brings—that i might refuse to let them go.

photographs were an exception. the visual projection of a memory makes me relive the moments captured in its essence, may it be good or bad. ironically, i’m not one to take photos a lot. a single snap is enough.

well, that was until i met him.

introverts, the both of us. we’re extremely shy, even if it’s just the two of us. but somehow, his presence is already enough to make me feel free.

one summer, we went on a trip with our circle of friends. you know, just a little staycation and chill time before the new semester starts. we had a campfire around to keep us warm for the night as we shared the most intimate musings and secrets.

everything was going well, until he broke the news—he was leaving. i didn’t really feel anything at first. it was bound to happen since he already told me in advance. but how come i couldn’t sleep that night? my heart ached and i couldn’t explain it.

i woke up a little too early the next morning. i guess i couldn’t sleep that much. from the backyard, i saw him making tea. from my pocket, i grabbed my phone and took a shot. he didn’t seem to notice.

me too. i didn’t notice i was already taking photos of him.

for me, taking photos were a spur-of-the-moment thing. however, there’s always a reason why i capture each photograph.

so when i took his photos that morning, what could it be?
