Inked Vipers habitat ranges from the Ashfall Waste to the Viridian Labyrinth; but most of the population is can mainly be found in the Highland Scrub.
Just like the other dragons that made their home here; these dragons have evolve into their own subspecies. This subspecies is twice the size of a regular Veilspun, due to the abundant variety of prey in the area. Because of this factor, these Veilspuns have grown twice the size and weight of their cousins. Their bones, though still hollow, is significantly more dense. Due to this, most mature Inked Vipers can only maintain flight for a short period of time.
Inked Vipers can range from a deep brown, to blues, reds and dusty yellows. Some of them may sport small translucent wings around their jaws, front and hind-legs, and under their main set of wings. They sport two varied spotted fur patterns; covering their wings and bodies, regardless of gender.
This subspecies are still communal dragons, yet live completely in a different way. For those that live in sand of the Highlands, communities build elaborate sand pits that span at lest a mile. These pits are interconnect by underground tunnels that lead to one big multifunctional sand pit lair.
Each adult has their own sand pit, either from them constructing it or stealing from other community members. Many use scrubs or grasses to hid the opening of the pit to lie in wait; using camouflage to blend into the sand. Others don’t bother to hiding their traps, and instead bury themselves leaving their wings exposed.
Building the pit, while effective; isn’t the only thing these Inked Vipers have up their sleeves. Using their exposed wings, they beat them at such a rate, that they emits a low frequency that carries for dozens of meters. This steady humming can cause prey to go into a relaxed, if not hypnotized, state and lure the target to the pit and fall in. Once in the pit, Veilspuns let their prey tire themselves out while trying to climb the wall. If the construction of the pit is well made, their fates are sealed; but if not, the target maybe able to escape.
Usually Inked Vipers avoid attacking prey. While they tower in size to their smaller cousins they are, to a degree, still fragile. But just because the prey escaped one trap doesn’t mean they wont fall for another. One siren call wont reach far, but in a group, a community choir can travel for miles.
