We should talk about JJK. (Spoilers btw)
I’m gonna talk about Nobara cuz she’s my girl.
Ppl troll on her cuz she’s the weakest in the squad during first year, but if you think objectively about her technique she’s the ACE of the team.
The Culling Games and so many other incidents wouldn’t have escalated if she were there, which is why I feel Gege had to temporarily off her aside from giving Itadori trauma and a means to advance his development.
Straw Doll works on ANYONE. Seen with Sukuna at the end of the manga and the curse in season 1 during her entrance trial to the game of chicken that reflects her damage on her enemies. All had varying levels of power but were still incredibly damaged after her attack.
The only problem with Straw Doll would be damaging the opponent enough to break off hair or nails or enough blood/flesh to use with the doll, as at that point in a fist fight you might as well end it already instead of waiting for the straw technique.
The thing is, that’s in a head on fight.
If Nobara had been active during the Culling Games, she could go to battlefields and pick up blood or broken flesh/parts of the enemies to imbue in dolls as the direct fighting is led somewhere else. She could tail an opponent as someone else fights with fists(who is either a meat shield/distraction/too weak) and crush them from a range.
She gets close range as a first year, and that’s essentially what gets her in trouble because she’d be constantly too close to her opponent to use straw doll and instead uses up her nails defending herself. But if she turned medium-long range and practiced Straw Doll at a distance, she could be deadly!
It’s easier to damage an opponent than knock them out, so if, say, Megumi used Divine Dogs to tear out hair or claw off skin from the opponent, the skikigami could send the part to a hidden Nobara who would then be able to hit vital body parts to either kill the curse outright or debilitate it enough for herself or team members to finish it off.
Straw Doll and Nobara seriously never got to show full potential 😭
curse you Gege for kicking out not only one of the main three first years, but one of the few women in the show as well *shakes fist like old man* /joke
No but seriously I could probably write an entire feminist theory essay on the ratio of women to men in JJK and their strength differences as well, it’s sad but common in Anime/Manga 😔
Not that I would ever write essays in my free time but also chalking it up to subconscious thought is like chalking up the color of curtains in a Shakespeare book to “maybe he liked blue curtains”.
AND my girl barely got any screen time in Modulo as well as far as I’ve heard :( she deserves better and would probably be able to snap Yuji out of his depression if she was around him more though I understand she’s older now
But also she’s aged wonderfully in Modulo and I love her eternally and loyally :))
No. 1 Nobara Kugisaki lover is here
God DAMN that is a lot but you’re right tbh. The ratio of Women to Men in JJK leaves a lot to be desired but again - like you said - it is unfortunately just a marker in manga and anime.
I’d argue that maybe one of the most important women in JJK was Yuki and that’s just because it spurred on Geto which in turn dominoed the main conflicts - and even then she didn’t mean it.
Idk the JJK women could’ve been treated much better than they were - I often mourn what could’ve been if Gege got the creative control they wanted and made the horror manga they wanted
