Deadshot in "Bailing my therapist out of jail"- AU comic script
š Another one inspired by my work life (no, no one yelled at me like this, but the attitude of the customer is inspired by my ex boss' over all attitude)
š Deadshot is in the later segment, but I hope you enjoy this nonetheless! Feedback on my writing, if Deadshot is written well, if Lisa is entertaining enough as a new character... is immensely appreciated.
š Context: (Short version) a (former) psychiatrist and her patient are forced to work together and go on various missions. This scene presents a more "domestic" side of their dynamic.
(Longer version) After screwing up big time at her dream job as a psychiatrist, Lisa tried to distance herself as much as possible from that, now thinking sheās just not made for it. Therefore, she studies something completely unrelated at Uni, related to physics and got a job as a waitress. However, life keeps pulling her back into her old life, when she is blackmailed to come back and have therapy sessions with a new patient/ inmate Deadshot. While thereās been a mutual opening up, these too always manage to get on each otherās nerves.Ā
(Setting: A modest restaurant in Gotham city, where Lisa works. Itās around noon and people working nearby come to have their lunch break here. Most are either in groupsĀ bigger or smaller, talking to each other or generally trying to disconnect from the corporate world, by looking out the window or listening to music in their headphones. At one of the tables, there is a young man in a suit, sitting alone with his work all around him, laptop, papers, files. He is talking to someone on the laptop when Lisa approaches him in a rush to leave a menu on his table.)
Guy: Try and assemble more sigils today, please⦠(doesnāt look away from his work) I donāt need this (handing the menu back to Lisa) The usualā¦Ā
Lisa (looks at the menu, then at him): I donāt know your usual.Ā
(He lifts his head from his work, studying her for a second)
Guy: Right⦠burger and a salad. You can tell Betty to bring it, sheās the one usually serving me. She knows my⦠preferences.Ā
Lisa: Thereās no Betty working here.
Guy: So sheās not here today?
Lisa: Not ever. Sir, maybe you got the name wrongā¦
Guy: Donāt correct me, miss. Iāve been coming here for the past three years and Betty was always serving me⦠I can see youāre new⦠so Iāll let it go. Go place my order and ask for her in the kitchen.Ā
(She reluctantly leaves clenching her jaw.)
Guy (back to his work): Yeah, I know, but youāve been here for a week already, so you should be accustomed to the innerworkings⦠(whispering) stupid amateursā¦
(After some time she comes back with his order, among others. She places his plate in one of the small spots that are not covered with his workpapers.)
Lisa: Betty worked here before me, so itās still me youāve got.Ā
(He is still focused on his work, but looks at the plate as itās placed on his table and then at her.)
Lisa: Enjoy your meal! (She walks off to other tables.)
(He starts eating from his burger, eyes on the laptop. He is in a meeting, so a voice of another person, his superior can be heard from it. She is somewhere in the background.)
Boss: Lemire, you assembled the new sigils badly. They must have this side is upwards while installing themā¦Ā
(The man swallows fast, tabbing to unmute himself so he can answer.)
Guy: Iām sorry, sir! Iām still trying to get the hang of the new models, they have many differeā
Boss: Theyāve been up and running for a week, you shouldāve learnt by now!
Guy: I understand! Iām sorry!Ā
Boss: We have to end the meeting, here! Itās noon and I want to eat! Email me other questions you have and Iāll get toā
(From Lemireās pov, he glances at the bitten burger in his hand. Smacks his lips, then looks at the burger again, with more attention.)
(Everyone around is looking at him. He points out at Lisa)Ā
Guy: You! You come here!!!
(She makes her way to his table, trying to keep her panic under control)
Guy (seething): What is this? (swingles the half of the burger he has left)Ā
Lisa: Y-your order, sir! ā¦is there something wrong with it?Ā
Guy: Something? Yes. There is something wrong with itā¦
(Complete silence, where he let her figure it out.)
Guy: Pork! Itās pork meat!Ā
Lisa: Iām extremely sorry, sir! Iāll bring you something elseāĀ Ā
Guy: You donāt get it, do you? You canāt just bring me something else! I donāt like pork! And you made me eat it!
Lisa: I apologize, but how should I know?Ā
Guy (starts pacing before her): I told you my orderā
Lisa: Sir, you didnāt tell me what burger you want, so I assumed you want the classicāĀ
Guy: You assumed? You assumed! What about you stopped assuming, missy, and ask me, next time? Did it get through your head what couldāve happenedāĀ
Lisa: Respectfully, sir, you are not allergic or couldnāt eat due to religious reasons. You just donāt like pork! Besides⦠was it that bad if you already had half of it?
Guy (looks at her a second with big eyes) I wanna talk to your manager! Now! (He takes the plate and smashes it at her feet as she is about to turn and leave). (He rests his arms to the table, panting): Stupid cow! Thatās how some are! They donāt get pregnant, theyāre gestatinā
(Lisa suddenly grabs him by the neck, pushing him on the window.)
(Later on, she is alone in a cell, behind prison bars. She sits down on a bed, when the cell door slides open before her. We can see a shadow, but not who they are.)
Voice: āWe canāt use violence for everythingā... āIām the good psychiatrist, my weapon is my mindā or whatever.Ā
(She doesnāt stand up, she frowns)
Lisa: Out of all people that couldāve bailed me⦠why did it have to be you?
(Now, we see that itās Floyd.)
Floyd: What other people? Mommyās working, daddyās dead. And the other doesnāt care enough.Ā
(Sheās now crossing her arms)
Lisa: Donāt mock me! You donāt know how you wouldāve reacted!Ā
Floyd: I wouldāve shot him. Easy.
Floyd (waiting by the door): You can come out, now!
Lisa: No. He acted like a jerk! He smashed a plate and called me names!
Lisa: I didnāt try anythingā I mean I did, but⦠I know what I was doing! Likeā that I was actually doing itā¦Ā
(He is lighting up a cigarette)
Lisa: Youāre right, I shouldāve reacted differently. If only Iād asked and didnāt fuck up his orderā Iāll do better next timeā¦Ā But thereās no next time! I fucked up big timeā¦
Floyd: We all wanted to strangle someone at one point. No biggie.
Lisa: My record, Floyd. It will forever be stained! Whoād hire me after this? (she has her knees to her chest and buries her head in her knees)Ā
(He gets inside the cell and sits next to her)
Floyd: He wonāt press charges, kid.Ā
Lisa: How can you know? Are the witnesses on my side?Ā
Floyd: No. They werenāt ācompletely sure what happenedā.Ā
Floyd: Youāre the shrink. You seriously donāt know the type of person he is?Ā
Lisa: Besides looking to dominate every social interaction?Ā
Floyd: Heās all bark no bite. He wonāt do anything. (A close-up to his face as he frows)
Floyd: You wonāt gain anything by staying here.Ā
Floyd (inhales the smoke): Soā¦Ā you donāt regret strangling him for the sake of it?Ā
Lisa (lifts her head and looks at him, tired and cried): I⦠I donāt know⦠I should though⦠he was a jerk but he didnāt deserve it⦠right?
(We are zooming out of the frame. He stretches out on the bed and exhales the smoke.)
