A favorite from my collection - this luminous little one from the 1960s. Thank you so much for all the donations to our local shelter animals yesterday, everyone. You lifted my spirits at a time when I really needed it. 💕 If you missed it, I'm running a fundraiser for our local animal shelter for my birthday this month! https://givebutter.com/mollys-birthday-for-shelter-kitties-yrubxt
Sometimes ur fat bc u were born that way. Ur parents are fat, ur cousins are fat, u always have been fat.
And sometimes, you become fat. Something happened (puberty, change in diet, change in ability, anything) and someone who was once skinny is now fat. This doesnt make you a failure. It just means ur fat now. Its okay. You didnt do something wrong.
No matter how you are fat, its okay to be fat
Bronze and Crystal Sword from China, c.450-250 BCE: the hilt of this sword was crafted from rock crystal, turquoise, and gold
This sword is more than 2,200 years old. The elaborate hilt was carved from a piece of rock crystal and then embellished with turquoise stones and intricate patterns of inlaid gold.
Above: a close-up of the ornately-decorated hilt
The blade itself was forged from bronze, and it has a greenish-blue patina that was naturally produced over time.
Above: some of the damage and discoloration on the blade
As this article explains:
This bronze sword from the Warring States period stands as a testament to engineering and artistic excellence. Meticulously detailed, the sword features a slender, formidable blade that would have delighted its owner both in battle and aesthetically.
However, the true star of this sword lies in its exquisitely decorated hilt. Adorned with inlays of rock crystal, turquoise, and gold, the hilt showcases the remarkable technical and artistic skills of ancient Chinese artisans. These precious materials not only enhance the sword’s visual appeal but likely communicate the status and affluence of its owner.
The sword’s intricate craftsmanship and use of rare materials suggest it was likely commissioned by a wealthy and influential individual, such as a high-ranking military commander or an aristocratic elite.

I hate that when you’re stressed enough your body just starts falling apart. I think it should realize you’re already stressed and don’t need that and start functioning better actually

I am now officially ordained in The Church of Gnome and The Church of the Latter-Day Dude.
You may now call me Rev. Wordy Ghost.
50
Today, I am 50. I am not sure how to feel, tbh, but I do think it feels a bit more "milestone" than any of the other birthdays. Almost like I did finally make it to be an adultier adult..
An, true to course, I feel like crap today. My stomach is bothering me and I am hoping to head off a diverticulitis flare so I can get the colonoscopy next week (yea, you young 'uns will learn about that soon enough".
My head is killing me....I think there was some kind of scent someone had on at IKEA when we went earlier that now it is really settling behind my eye.
But, I do feel good. I don't feel like life is passing me by or "where did the time go!" I know where the time went. It went to raising kids. This is my era. Writing and working and helping others write.
Happy birthday to me. <3
Thursday prompt...but on a Friday!
Blast it! I forgot to write a prompt for this week. There have been some whirlwind things going on and (small) life changing events. So, I offer you an oldie.
Look around and pick up the first book you see.
Flip through and open it to whatever page.
The first line on the second page is your prompt.
Yes, even if is is a manual, recipe book, or text book.
Happy writing!
Context Clues for 1000...
So. I am a writing instructor. My degree is literally in writing. However, I have noticed something that I haven't decided if i am just old and shaking my fist as clouds (will be 50 the end of this week) or if others may have also noticed it.
It's most obv in Reddit, but not ONLY in Reddit. It seems that people now days have no idea how to use context clues. Anything that is written is literal and face value OR confusing to people.
This doesn't mean that sometimes people write or say confusing things, but sometimes it just seems that some people decide to just ignore the nuance in language and jump straight to confusion or, in some cases, outrage because something simple was misunderstood.
I realize that soc med is mostly the domain of the younger folks now. I feel it every day and have to ask my kids wtf something meant as the vernacular changes often depending on what generation is speaking. I still haven't figured out why 6 7 is funny? Can someone explain that to me???
i am just curious if anyone else has noticed. I do realize I am also asking a soc med platform about this, but tumblr isn't the same as other platforms so hoping someone else had some insight that I can understand.
Because I am getting old and young people are starting to scare me.

Writing Prompt Thursday!
Ok. I am really going to try to keep up with this. Life gets in the way, though so please be understanding if you are looking for this and I haven't posted in a while. Starting a business is hard. But, I am determined.
Anyway...
IF you have a tarot deck, pull out the Major Arcana. If you do NOT have a tarot deck, go to any free online tarot card readers like this one. Pull a card shuffle and pull a card (or two, up to you how you feel you need). Then study the card a bit. Notice the colors, the symbolism. What card it is.
This is NOT a reading, do not "read" the card. Just notice it and all it's elements.
Then, when you feel ready, write.
Feel free to let me know what you have written or how it went. I am always curious what comes out of my prompts.
**Any of these prompts can also be used for art as well. If you DO use a prompt for some other artistic medium, please let me know!
Listen, I'm having fun playing with the ultra patriotic voice, but after a couple years in blue-collar landscaping jobs, you really do need to phrase things like that.
"I'm pretty sure that fella ain't here legally."
"Well, that ain't your business Chip, it's his."
They hate being preached to. If you pull out words like 'gender wage gap' they'll tell you you're brainwashed by the far left media.
"He's one of them transgenders."
"He got freedoms too, Jimmy."
Also, please understand that SO often the real issue these people have is that they just want to say something inappropriate. They don't like being told they can't say "fag", so they'd say it for a reaction, just like a teenager would.
Shut down the conversation without reacting.
"His dick, not mine" will get you much further to shutting that guy down than "well it's really inappropriate to call someone a slur while I'm the job site".
And that's the point. To shut them up. To make them quit saying shit like that. The first one makes him seem kinda weird for caring about what that guy does with his dick. The second one gives him something to fight against and make a big deal about.
code-switching matters for communicating across cultures of all varieties
Cannot overstate how many flavours of bullshit disguised as political opinion can be shut down by “none of my business” or “don’t be rude”
