may i get a look into marian's wardrobe π
Oh I've been dying to talk about that so thank you so much for asking !!
First of all I'd say that Marian would much prefer to stick to a more masculine look, but when you're a highborn lady and a Lannister daughter at that, you don't have much of a choice.
When attending court, she'd favor gowns with high necks, long or 3/4 sleeves depending on the weather and overall a very comfy fit. She'd want them light in summer to be able to move freely, heavy and large in winter (yards of heavy velvet, furs..) to be snug and toasty.
She inherited Joanna's gowns, but she never wears them, and even if she wanted to they're not her size and she couldn't bring herself to alter them. She gave some to Cersei instead and keeps the rest locked away in a closet.
2. Compromises or split skirts.
As she grows older she slowly but surely tries to integrate clothes she actually wants to wear in her wardrobe and get away with more stuff fashion wise, even at court and in public. These VictorianΒ split skirts are the perfect inspo for that. She finds them far more practical than a regular gown / skirts, and they might raise a few eyebrows, but not enough that she'd be forbidden from wearing them.
When away from court, at home in Casterly Rock when there is none but close family around or when she's alone out there in nature, Marian does stick to a masculine garb. Linen shirts, trousers and boots that allow a free range of movement outside and a richer look at home, with leather coats.
When she died, Tygett, Jaime and even Tywin took some of these clothes and kept them for themselves.
Marian owns and wears at all times the very same necklace that Cersei and Myrcella do. They were actually Joanna and Marian's first, when Joanna died Marian gave Cersei their mother's and when Marian died, Cersei kept her sister's necklace to give to her own daughter.
Aside from that necklace she wore little jewelry but she did sometimes wear golden rings.
Dorne is hot, so high necks and tight sleeves are sadly out. In Sunspear and the Water Gardens, Marian either wears her usual shirts and trousers or dresses that either have a silhouette very reminiscent of the 1920's or just very flowy dresses that are very light and comfortable.
Marian most often wears the colours of her house, but she favours a brighter, more orangey red than the usual crimson ; when she was younger her gowns were often a pale green that matched her eyes and made her appear more friendly and approachable.
When her mother passed away she started wearing black, a colour that looked atrocious on her, and stuck to it for a long long time, only wearing her usual red when it would have been deemed inappropriate to wear pure black, and even then she'd go for a darker red or purplish-red. After making up with her father and moving to Dorne, she reverts back to her usual bright orange-red.
To compensate for the lack of jewelry, her clothes are often embroidered with golden thread and beads. Cersei embroidered some of her clothes when she was younger and even if the stitches are a bit crooked Marian wears these with pride.
