Posts like these are tricky. Every year, a growing number of MFA photo programs across the country churn out ripe, excited graduates, ready to seek their fortune in a rapidly evolving art market. Some will use their new relationships and refined smarts to stake claim on the art world, while tastemakers and opportunists alike try to predict who’s “hot,” much like taking bids on Etsy or Shake Shack’s recent public offerings. But what excites us most about this year’s ICP-Bard MFA graduates is their commitment to a range of photographic methods. Their work is hip yet thoughtful, and is consistent while rarely exuding a particularly "ICP-Bard" aesthetic. They continue to blur rigid categories, incorporating both process-heavy and straightforward documentary traditions, sometimes in the same series. Without further ado, we've culled together a selection of six standouts from ICP/Bard’s MFA class of 2015.

The ICP Bard MFA class of 2016 invites you to question the habitual and submit images that relate to the state of being [in]flux.
With the rise of digital imaging and the widespread use of social media, there’s an exponentially increasing influx of imagery in our lives. Shifts are happening simultaneously within the photographic community, and within the medium itself.

Moderated by Marvin Heiferman, the evening consists of presentations and exhibitions that show how a new generation of visual artists are integrating photography, video and performance art into their studio practice and work.

Re – Touching
"Allegorical imagery is appropriated imagery; the allegorist does not inherit images but confiscates them. He lays claim to the culturally significant, and poses as an interpreter... He does not restore an original meaning that may have been lost or obscured... Rather, he adds another meaning to the image. If he adds, however, he does so only to replace." - Craig Owens
In a form of representation that has transformed from an object of absolute truth, to one thats governed with a skeptical eye. The hand plays a central role in materializing these actions into a fictitious reality. These images created with a large fomat hand made camera make refrence to past and present modes of photographic editing. Gesturing to our symbolic nature of interacting with technology and the metonymic relationships found throughout the medium over the course of time.
