Ueda gave an interview for VGC that has some really interesting tidbits on the game and its development so far, namely:

development didn’t fully pick up until 2020, which means that it’s been in the works for only 5/6 years

he’s happy for fans to consider it part of a quadrilogy along with the previous 3 titles, though similarities aren’t made on purpose, they just come to be naturally

the release date is, according to Epic, “closer than what you might think”

Thoughts:

waking up alone in a strange place sounds very reminiscent of The Last Guardian

the ruins from what used to be a long forgotten civilization sounds very reminiscent from Shadow of the Colossus

the robot in question seems friendly and like it will help you traverse the world (you guessed it! reminiscent of The Last Guardian AND Ico)

In the brand new trailer we got a closer look at the robots and the environment, as well as the main character(s). With it we’ve seen glimpses of battles that appear to be FPS-style, and even vehicle chases. The main character themselves seem to be robot-ish themselves, though there might be a human underneath all that armor. Giants are not missing, and this time they’re robots too (one of them looked like Gaius/Colossus 3!)

All in all, we’re fully in a futuristic dystopian setting, which is uncharted territory for the team. Not much was revealed about the story but there are plenty of details I’m eager to dive into! I also loved how they incorporated their name into the title. “Atlas” sorta reminds me of a trip around the world, a legendary journey… could it be?
