Breitachklamm, Philipp Heigel
“Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destinies of others. You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it. You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors.”
— Andrew Boyd (via quotemadness)
“you’re a mess of good intentions gone wrong. you strike a match on yourself to keep others warm, and now the whole goddamn world’s on fire. you try to put it out, and you try so hard. the dam breaks, and the waters of your sorrow pour free. you are sorry; so very, very sorry— and you will drown everyone to prove it.”
— the hero who couldn’t save anyone | m.a.w (via dvoyd)

minerva is just trying to continue on with her day when she is stopped in her tracks. being confronted about her outburst is something she expected, but she had been hoping it wouldn’t be so immediate. she doesn’t particularly feel like dealing with consequences. and why should she? if she wanted, she could burn this school to the ground just like she and her friends did with the last. everyone within its walls turned to ash along with it.
but the point in moving on to another establishment is to start over, forget what happened in the past, and keep anyone else from ever finding out. so rather than snap and murder the poor woman just trying to do her job, she looks up - clearly displeased and impatient - and sighs. “i don’t really have any words for the situation. we all know what happened,” as she speaks she is gesturing to the uncomfortable glances shot in her direction as students pass them by. “can we not just… move on?”
the power dynamics in this school are unbelievably complicated and insane. ( she thought where she grew up was difficult, even if she wouldn’t trade it for the world. ) between minerva with her choking out her classmate mid lecture, and the wolves practically attacking jack in the cafeteria ( what a headache that was to clear up! ), she’s hardly slept in weeks. then again, that is her usual sleep schedule, so what’s the difference? she just has to push through today. then the next day. the next week. the next month. however long she may be here.
she resists the urge to rub her temples at minerva’s response. would it kill the universe to give her an easy week? one with no monsters or slightly homicidal teenagers to watch over? the universe would be more likely to implode.
“ yes, we all know what happened. ” erulastiel heard it not just from dorian, but from ric and half a dozen students in the class, including the somehow crying and furious witch that had been on the receiving end of the choking. at least the school was talking about this now, rather than jack’s explosion in the cafeteria. still, it doesn’t make her job that much easier. she knows what minerva and her kind are capable of, and she has to tread carefully on the line between the adult in control and not pissing her off.
“ i would love to just move on, but unfortunately, that girl’s parents are constantly calling doctor saltzman to see what we’re going to do about it. mr. williams asked me to speak with you about your... ” what’s a good word here? “ aggression. he thought it would be best that i did this time rather than miss tig. ” for the obvious reason that apparently witches piss her off. erulastiel hasn’t been a witch in years. “ would you step into my office? ”
destinedgreat.
her first words, they brought panic, images running through his head like flashback. michael. nick. mary. she never said what he said specifically, she never ——– but he should’ve expected it. teachers are meant to help, right? can’t help without all the information. and yet, before long eyes tore away again, hands curling into fists at his sides, nails digging into skin… and yet, came to loosen, as she continued. came as a shock, left him blinking.
great… things…?
it wasn’t the first time he’d heard it. remembered the angel dumah, her words : you have a glorious destiny. but she was manipulating him, she was… it was a lie. and yet castiel, before that : you would change the world for the better. that hadn’t worked, and yet, those words kept following him around, stalking him, like maybe it wasn’t over, yet. even now. even now, it wasn’t over. like everyone knew a punch line he wasn’t yet privy to. like one day… all of this might actually be worth it.
it wouldn’t. it was a set up, wasn’t it? make him believe he could do good… and then watch him. watch him make another mistake. watch more lives get lost. there was too much blood on his hands… he couldn’t scrub it clean.
the unexpected touch felt like his skin was on fire, and all at once, the nephilim was quick to shuffle back, shaking his head repeatedly. “ no, no, no… ” mumbled over and over, eyes squeezed shut but lit up gold beneath lids. breathe. breathe. reign it in, please! “ you can’t ——– i’m not… ” breathe. took to leaning against wooden desk, hands tightly curling around the edge, grateful for something to keep him grounded.
several moments passed. when he came to stand again, scorch marks were left behind, hot to the touch. let out a small breath, forced out the words. “ i’m not… good. ”
he backs away, and she yanks her hand back. selfish girl, she forgets not everyone likes to be touched, needs to be touched the way she does. she crosses her arms, tucking her hands in so that she is not tempted to try and touch him again.
he’s... panicking? nothing alaric told her prepared her for this: him curled over the desk, his eyelids glowing bright with restrained energy, and his breaths and “no’s” all jumbled together until he is breathing self doubt. it strikes right at her heart, this ragged pain draped over his shoulders and dragging him down. she doesn’t know what it is she said that incited such panic stricken denial. she never meant for this to happen: she only wanted to help him. even those with wings sometimes need help getting into the sky.
“ jack? ” the word is almost inaudible as he breathes and grounds himself again. she aches to reach out and hug him, but instead folds her arms tighter around herself. she doesn’t want to spook him again.
he stands, says that final denial of his goodness, and her heart breaks for him. this has been a problem since the beginning: she feels too deeply, too strongly. her empathetic tendencies lead down a dangerous road. slowly, the mutant extends her arms wide, palms out so that he sees she means no harm when she takes a step closer. like he’s a spooked animal, she treats him with caution, though she only seeks to soothe him.
“ jack. ” some of the emotion bleeds through her voice, despite how she tries to control it. be the adult, be in control of the situation, eru. “ why would you say that? ” why would he so blatantly deny the goodness in himself? one small step closer before she lowers her arms, tucking them back around herself so that she can stop herself from holding this poor, fragile boy. “ did someone tell you that? ” being a nephilim growing up around hunters could not have been easy, and she’s noticed he’s not been visited since he arrived. “ why would you even think it? ”

send me ‘ mistletoe ’ for my muse’s response to being underneath mistletoe with your muse. specify whether it’s accidental or on purpose.
“Just lean on me, I’ll help you walk.”
‘something’s wrong’ sentence starters.
the shunka warakin. a mystical name, but not terrifying. not until it’s taken a chunk out of you. though erulastiel is only a shapeshifter, not a true werewolf, it ripped a hunk of her hind leg out before it realized. she was only trying to defend the students stuck in wolf form. better her than them, erulastiel supposed.
that was how jack found her in the morning: human again, leg bleeding, unable to stand, unable to do anything but try and shift so he couldn’t see the bloody mess of her leg. give it another week or two, and she would be whole again. she might not heal as fast as some, but she would still heal.
at least she managed to find some of the clothes stashed all over the woods near the school before he stumbled on her. “ jack. ”
should she be embarrassed or relieved that one of her students is helping her to stand on her mess of a leg? she wraps her arm around his shoulder, because what choice does she have? she could lay in the dirt until she healed. always a possibility. still, she gingerly puts weight on the leg, only to take it back off, hissing in pain. “ how did you find me way out here? ” / @destinedgreat
