accepting an L: s4 e13
i can own my Ls when i take them: i was wrong about s4 e13 being some type of grand, emotional ending.
in true ososan fashion, it was a bunch of parodies that ended up not being able to be aired because of copyright.
thanks to @mushimatsu and a comment in this reddit post by foxy_vixy2323 for identifying all the songs that were being parodied. i just wanted to add some visuals so you could get a sense of how accurate some of these were lol
Tsuppari Hatabou Rock 'n Roll vs. Tsuppari High School Rock'n Roll (Toko-hen) — Yokohama Ginbae (横浜銀蝿) — 1981
the sunglasses paired with the leather jackets were very karamatsu esque imo lol
Karamtasu Samba vs Oyome Samba — Hiromi Go (郷ひろみ) — 1981
i was cracking up at karamtsu's little jig that he does until i watched the music video and this dude was pulling the exact same dance moves. the animators nailed it
Akatsuka 2-gou vs Azusa 2-go — Kariudo (狩人) — 1977
dekapan's underpants striped green and black to match the green shirt is actually killing me. also the fact that the og is about reminiscing on a first love that ended in heartbreak and the parody is about showing nipples and sucking is awesome
DEATH FIRE vs. DESIRE - Jonetsu Akina Nakamori (中森明菜) — 1987
esper nyaa making his first appearance in decades just to be a background dancer for ichimatsu gives me the visual that ichimatsu had to call in a favor and convince him to do this
Gag Dayo Jinsei wa vs Naniwabushi Dayo Jinsei wa — Takashi Hosokawa (細川たかし) — 1984
this one was so cute ngl but reading the lyrics "they'd laugh at me and call me short and stupid" while chibita is singing so beautifully made me chuckle a bit can't lie
Chorokoi vs Hatsukoi — Kozo Murashita (村下孝蔵) — 1983
i will admit: i thought the fact that there was a middle schooler in the background was just a creepy choromatsu thing and the umbrella would be the aspect parodied from the real song. but no, they added the umbrella in and kept the teen girl
Jyushi ni Kisu Shite vs Kiss wa Me ni Shite! — The Venus (ザ・ヴィーナス) — 1981
this one is interesting because i feel like they tried their hardest to parody it without being TOO close to the original. like a lot of the aspects of the music video are omitted and they added this psychedelic eye in the background that was NOT in the og song to match jyushi's absurdist energy lmaoo
Suekko Heart no Komoriuta vs Gizagiza Heart no Komoriuta — The Checkers (チェッカーズ) — 1984
suekko means the youngest lmao. similar to jyushi, they actually strayed very far from the setting of the original music video, which takes place in a forest. that said, i feel like this parody sounds the most like the original song. (i truly apologize for how bad this screenshot is i tried my best)
Katte ni Suru Zansu vs. Katte ni Shiyagare — Kenji Sawada (沢田研二) — 1977
this screenshot also sucks, but just know that he's throwing his hat into the crowd. also i like that they added eyeshadow to iyami despite it not being in the music video because kenji sawada has some pics wearing eyeshadow
Osomatsu no Melody vs. Otokotachi no Melody — SHOGUN — 1979
i love that oso isn't even playing the guitar he's just holding it the entire time lmao give kara his guitar back. i like that they kept the lighting turning blue mid-song from the music video lol
Neet Paradise vs Paradise Ginga — Hikaru GENJI (光GENJI) — 1988
this screenshot also sucks because they're constantly moving and roller skating in the video lol. this parody felt very fitting bc the original song is about escaping reality into a dream world that adults can't find lmaooo
all in all, even though i was completely and utterly wrong about what the last episode was about, i found myself smiling the whole way through. it did feel like a good conclusion to a whole season that was entirely dedicated to showa era references. i almost respect it MORE that an extra emotionally charged last episode, if only for the fact that it honestly wouldn't have felt earned.
i think the episode would've been was more fun if i had known any of these songs prior to watching the episode, but hopefully you can appreciate it more knowing them now.
I like how you do ichimatsu's side profile
it do be a task sometimes tho (❁´◡`❁)
Is it okay if I request art of ichi with his sharp teeth? I just really like how you draw his teeth.
you're giving me an excuse to draw lots of sharp teeth??? It is absolutely ok!!
(Monochrome ver too cuz i gots mixed feelings on my colors lol)

While I think about it, since Osomatsu-san Season 4 is supposed to be celebrating 90 years since Fujio Akatsuka's birth (and the 60th anniversary of Fujio Pro, his studio, which is still ongoing and being administered by his family/estate) I'd like to show you my favorite picture of the man. Let it flow over you. Thank you.

I've been away from this account since S4EP04 so speedrun of my thoughts since: EP05: Blatant throwaway episode meant to piss off/test the patience of the audience like EP01. We spend half of it on a stationery shot of the brothers recuperating in bed and half on a dry skit (the fisherman one).
EP06: Not bad, had its moments, this is partially an homage to "The Tatami Time Machine Blues" and the short story it's based on. An OK "all brothers" episode with a story that takes up the whole episode run time.
EP07: The earlier skits (A Dog of Flanders, Hansel and Gretel, Tokoko White) were dull and uninspired like most of this season. The final one (Karamatsu's Multiple Crane Wives) got some laughs out of me. This is the third time they've done a crane wife bit...
EP08: What can I say. It's an Ichimatsu episode, of course it's my favorite of the season so far. While I can't say it was "funny" at any point, it was compelling and enjoyable. Chibita's small role in it felt important too.
EP09: Dire. What were they thinking. Found myself skipping ahead a lot. The joke of the second half of the ep is, and I'm not going to pull punches here, "aren't mentally retarded people funny?". Only part I enjoyed was the brothers as matsutake singing to Chibita/Hatabou. Bizarrely, this stupid song might have been Takahiro Sakurai's first singing role in years and that brings me great joy lol.
EP10: Unexpected continuity from Iyami being in space in earlier in the season. Premise was promising, but execution seemed lacking? I dunno - didn't tune out or skip ahead so I guess it was OK. Kara and Jyushi singing together in the post credits made me smile, don't care that it's the same clip from a previous season. Simpler, sweeter times.
EP11: Surprising to realize we haven't had "the sextuplets experience weird twin stuff" and "body swap" episodes until now. The second half of the episode is revealed to have been a dream, but I'm absolutely fascinated by the implication that maybe the reason the sextuplets are so radically different between Osomatsu-san and Osomatsu-kun is that they body swapped at some point before and just reacclimated that way. OK, see you at the end of the season after EP12/13.
Osomatsu-san season 4, ep 8, thoughts. (Spoilers)
Let me start this off by saying -clears throat- ICHIMATSU! ICHIMATSU!!!!!! ICHIMATSU!!!!!! -GAAAASSSSSPPPP- ICHIMATSU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok. Now that that's out of the way.
Once again I enjoyed this episode. It's just so freaking cute, but also had some sad parts in it. It's also funny that some of my points in my last post are still relevant in this episode. Such as Ichimatsu not thinking things through, and Todomatsu being the one (again) to try and help him think more about his plans:
(Don't worry, Ichimatsu; I'm the same way.)
And also my point about them needing cat food and not being able to afford it.
Also, how cute was it that all of them tried to persuade their mom into letting Ichi keep the cat? He truly is the baby of the family.
His reaction when he realized that he could adopt the cat was so freaking funny and sweet. He didn't realize that was an option. I also like to imagine that would be his reaction to finding out he was going to be a dad, or if his partner asked if they could adopt a child.
I'm gonna take some inspiration from @pinky-the-bunny post for this next part (I hope it's ok).
Like them, I think Nekomaru does remind Ichi of ESP kitty, but the part I think that does, is where Nekomaru is getting into trouble with the townsfolk.
He causes trouble and gets the people mad at him, which gets him chased, just like ESP kitty did.
I think Ichi still carries guilt from this. Thinking, "if I hadn't gotten mad and kicked him out of the house, he wouldn't have gotten chased and hurt." He's trying to correct (what he believes to be) his sin with this new cat.
Which is why he never gives up on the Nekomaru, no matter how much it hurts.
Why he's so desperate to keep the cat in one place, where he can protect him.
But like for most of us and our past sins, we can't always make up for it. Especially when we try to erase those sins by using someone completely different.
Ichi was also seriously ADORABLE in this ep!
Also, I loved this look Chibita had.
THAT IS THE LOOK OF A MAN THAT HASN'T FORGOTTEN HIS ROOTS! He too was once an orphan (a "stray" if you will) that lived on the streets, having to fend for himself, so of course he'd know the cats' true motive.
Now, with all the good I've said, I have one complaint: Totoko.
I did like in this season how she was treating the sextuplets like chilldhood friends (though I don't think they're returning that treatment to her?), and didn't always act like she hated their company, and we still got to keep some of her mistreatment of them.
But this episode it really made her look like a typical "damsel" side girl in a lot of animes.
Totoko from 1-3 would have been PISSED when that cat scratched her, and she would have whooped his butt. There could have even been a gag where she's so upset that this cut destroyed her looks, that she turns into a delinquent. Or something.
Point is: She wouldn't have been calm about that, and would have at least fought with the sextuplets instead of just relaying on them to catch the cat.
I doubt we'll get it this season, but I hope one day they bring back the strong, independent Totoko-chan that we had for season 1-3. She can still be nice to the sextuplets at times though.
