Oh man how long has it been. I don’t even want to look.

If you haven’t guessed I’ve just been flat out hiding from the internet lately. I’m not exactly sure why but I’m just anxious about it. I have this horrible habit of wanting to do everything all at once. I want to make comics, 3d model, make funny videos for youtube and vine, stream on Twitch. I want to do it all because it all sounds so much fun. Unfortunately this puts a lot of things on my plate all at once. It got to a point where it just stressed me out and I ran from my problems to avoid the stress. Not the most responsible thing to do I know.

I got a new software development job about a month ago and I’ve been using it as an excuse to not do anything else. I just tell myself that I’m too busy getting “in to the groove of things” at this new job and wouldn’t pay attention to anything else I should be doing.

I don’t want to procrastinate any longer. I don’t even know why I am procrastinating. I enjoy making videos. Maybe it’s because I am harsh on self criticism and I want to avoid that? Maybe I’m just a lazy bum? Who knows. What I do know is that procrastinating doesn’t bring me happiness. And I want to thank you for asking this question. It kind of forced me to analyze what I am doing with my life and where I want to be in the future. You’ve indirectly set me back on track and I appreciate that, thank you.

Gaze upon it and all its glory. Free software, thy name is Blender.

I’ve used Blender for everything 3D, so all models you see in this blog was made in Blender. This isn’t because Blender is better (I haven’t tried using other 3D modeling software), but just because it’s free and I have no money. It’s a great piece of software with an awesome supporting community as well, and I recommend using it for anyone wanting to get in to 3D modeling.

For getting to know how to use Blender in general I’ve used https://www.lynda.com/ to get me started. My library card allows me to log in and get access to all tutorials for free on that site (cue Arthur having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library card song). You might be able to find a similar deal with your local library but I have found there are free tutorials on YouTube that provide the same knowledge about Blender. So getting to know Blender is just a matter of messing around in the software while pursuing tutorials on YouTube.

Now “getting that effect” in Blender is a little more ambiguous. This is because there is more than one way to make low poly models like this, so I can’t give you and end-all-be-all answer. That isn’t to say the tutorial I am about to link is wrong, but I’m just letting you know there’s many ways to get the same effect so just keep your mind and eyes open because you may stumble upon a better way to do this.
