I was thinking that the k-drama "Notes from the last row" (Maen kkeutjul sonyeon) was strongly reminiscent of François Ozon's "Dans la Maison" (In the House), but since they are both adaptations of Juan Mayorga's play "El chico de la última fila" (The Boy in the Last Row), it's only natural!

"To live and die in LA" has multiple endings. Sandwiched between two gruesome deaths and the cynical finale, there a brief scene so reminiscent of Basic Instinct that Paul Verhoeven was most certainly taking (subliminal) notes!

About Warlock (1959), director Edward Dmytryk "later denied that the gay subtext was intentional". Maybe what he meant was that the gay subtext was very much text. How else to explain the ending, with a crying Henry Fonda immolating his loyal companion after a frenzied speech? In a rare instance, Anthony Quinn plays against type, imbuing his character with enough ambiguity to feed the jilted lover's angle.

There is a strong tonal kinship between this video and Under the skin, the movie director Jonathan Glazer made 15 years later.

Denis Lavant worked with choreographer Christine Burgos to "structure" this scene. It was so taxing that he said to director Leos Carax that he could only do five takes, finally he did seven. In one take, Denis Lavant did a somersault and subsequently had to run faster to keep up with the cars used for the travelling. Carax loved this impromptu rupture of the rhythm and used it in the movie.

This memorable sequence made Denis Lavant a household name in French cinema. He reminisces about it in this interview.
